Anyone take out leather seats from a junkyard car and use them?

I heard around here a long time ago that someone said to go to a junkyard and to take the leather seats from a totaled max and switch them with his cloth seats. Has anyone done this? How hard would it be to do? There are a lot of wires under the driverside seat. Is it ok to unplug and replug them? I don't have seat memory currently and only the driverside is electric.

Should be easy...flat head and 14mm socket should do it.

2 front just unbolt, and the rear bench, for the bottom part that ur butt sits on there are 2 clips about a foot from the door tucked under the seat that u pull out, then itll pop out, dont know about the part that ur back touches tho, i assume 14m

....umm nm i'm thinking 4 gen back seat....the fold down seats have like 4 10mm if in not mistaking. You put the seat down and pull on the velcro edges near the brackets to expose the screws... anyone with clearer instructions can jump in..

Yes, the wires are for power seats, heated seats, and airbag if your car has side airbags (newer 5th gens). Unplugging the airbag one might throw a code, but thats the worst thing that could happen. If you do have side airbags, don't turn the key while the airbag plug from the seat (the yellow one) is unplugged, so you wont throw the code. Other than that, youll be perfectly fine.

And another stupid question, the door panels, how do you take them out, pry with a screwdriver?

Theres a trim ring around the door handle that pops out. Thats gonna be the hardest thing, and you might break one before you figure out exactly how it pops out. Then theres the round cover piece up by the mirror that pops off and theres a screw behind it (only on the front doors). Then, near the window switches in each door, where you put your hand, look down and take out the small black circle that covers up the last screw. Once that screw is out, you can do one of two things. You can either pop out that black piece where your hand goes when you close the door, or you can pop out the entire silver/gray piece that includes the window switches, which comes out by prying up from the back of the car forward, then it slides out at the very front. Then just pry, its all just white clips from there.

Hope that helped or made sense.

The price of the seats usually depends on the junkyard. I would expect to pay $300?

Hmm. Would nissan do it for me? I remember someone saying something about them putting leather on seats if the car the dealer has is cloth but the person wants it in leather that they will put the leather on the seats. Does anyone know if nissan can do that for me or how much it would cost?

I was looking into getting leather from the Nissan delasership at one point. The cost was around $1200-1400 lower end single tone, upper two tone.

Wasn't there a post around here somewhere about leather upgrade covers? Seems much more reasonable price wise.

Don't get them from the dealer - its a rip off. Theres a group deal going on for 2 tone Katzkin (high end leather) for your car for about 600. Installation is relatively straightforward, just a little time consuming.

No, its a full sleeve that replaces your cloth now.
No stitching or sewing, just some wire and grommets underneath that hold the upholstery tight - forget their real name
