New discovery- brake pads

So I was over at Nissan to pick up my hoses to send out to Samco for the coolant hose project I have going on.... and I was checking out some of the Nismo stuff for the 02-up Altima and here is something interesting I found out.

Even thou the part #s are different on the boxes, the part # on the actuall brake pad is the same- both brake pads for the 5th gen and Altima are made by Hitachi.

Nismo makes a brake pad set for the front of the Altima- its list price is 150 dollars, I can get them for less but they are still over 100 dollars for a set. Reading some reviews on a R-Spec Altima by Nismo, reviewers have raved bout the brakes- which are just brake pads on stock rotors. They do not fade and give awesome bite.

Anyone wanna try a set out ? Or should I be the guinea pig ?

They didn't have em in stock so, it would take bout a week to get them.

I'm removing my Blehmco TTZ brake kit and putting my OEM calipers on with fresh set of blanks and some kinda aftermarket high performance pads- this is why I inquired bout the Nismo stuff.

I've found someone selling em on Ebay, I just need to look up other brake pads operating temp before I spend 120 bux on a set of pads, my favorite pads are half that price ( Hawk HPS ).

I'm sure he can't beat my price, I get 10% over dealer cost on parts. I don't have to pay for shipping eighter.

I'm going to order up a set next week.

If anyone wants to handle a GD on these, I can do $115.50 each for 5 sets- I'll do what I can on shipping, and don't forget about the sales tax savings! 7-9% ought to more than pay the UPS guy!

700* F is the max operating temp....IIRC, ~200 degrees hotter than our stock pads (which should improve stopping notably, unless you track the car).

wouldn't this heat up the rotors more, and warp them faster?

urban legend....maxima rotors are not warped from the heat...they are not warped at all, actually...they jusy seem that was because of excessive pad material transfer from the OEM and some aftermarket pads.....

do a search if you want to know how I know this.

Of course! Lots of options on pad material for Z32s, so let me know what you need.

Nissan SE 2001, 5spd brake upgrade

About a year ago after having horrible problems with rotor warp and brake judder, I replaced the stock brakes with Powerslot rotors, Hawk HPS pads and Motul 5.1 brake fluid. My Max stops on a dime now, this brake package is perfect for spirited street driving.

Alright I just a set of these Nismo Pads from my local Nissan Dealer and they cost me a whoppin' $150.00. I'll post some pics tomorrow morning when I dig into the task of switching out the pads.

BTW, it's funny how a thread on Nismo Pads turns into a thread about warping rotors.

Hey quick question.
Are you putting these pads on the original calipers?

Yes. According to DaveB and others they are the same exact replacement pad. I have no idea why they don't market them for the Maxima.

What I meant was, why they don't list the Nismo pads as a part for the Maxima, even though it is the same exact pad for the Altima.

Regardles of whether or not they fit, Nissan no longer considers the maxima sporting in any way/shape/form...therefore they dont really bother to market the parts.

They are a harder compound for street/light track duty....read the description on ebay (operating temps to 700F)

Hawk HPS are good till 800F according to their site, this is why I'm still holding back till I find out WHO makes these pads for Nismo so I don't pay 3x the price for some item that Raybestos (haha j/k) makes.

I'm waiting for some kinda review on these Nismos guys, till then I'm going to be looking for more products for our cars- and I have one coming for you 5spd 4th and 5th gen boys

As soon as I get my hands on a set, I should be able to tell more about them- The DOT requires pads to have a "lining code" that allegedly corresponds to the performance of the pad- somewhere I've got the sheet that explains what they all mean- Should be good for comparison!
