parting ways with my 01

hey guys so im selling my 01 i just never had a great interest in it. I always wanted a car that i could go to car shows and race with but the max although pretty powerful doesnt have many mods so i decided to pursue a Civic SI something like the 98 or 99 or the 300zx

OK...........and? The Z is nice, but it will be tough to find one in decent shape, with reasonable mileage and price.

Normally, I stand up for the underdog...but in this case: I think you're a f*cking idiot for wanting to downgrade. You have a Maxima.

I would take an 01 max over a 90's civic any day - Im sure most folks would do the same. The Z on the other hand...

I'll take a Maxima please...Please help!

I had a late 90's civic, but want to switch to a 5th Gen maxima. I'm a and cant start a new thread, so I thought I'd ask my question here....

I'm contemplating this purchase:

2000 Maxima GLE
Fully loaded
3 small cosmetic scuffs on paint
somewhat dirty interior (mostly carpet stains)
102K miles
$8500 ($9500 after dealer BS fees and taxes)

The only problem is the engine seems sluggish. When I punched the gas, the car's RPM's didn't jump. The acceleration barely increased at all. I've heard 5th Gen Maximas have MAF problems, and I'm hoping this is the only cause. Do any of yall know what the sluggish response could be a result of? Also, how bad do the miles sound? I only need to get 40K miles out of it before i buy a new Maxima in 2009.

It would be great to have some problems in mind to check before considering the purchase. The dealer said they would check it out and make the necessary repairs at no cost to me, but I want to watch my *** and my checkbook before spending my money. Thanks!

MAF sensor, or coil packs- if I was you I would unplug one of the coils to make the engine run very rough- it will throw a code for a coil pack. Tell them you won't buy the car unless they repleace all 6 coils. After you get it put in a new MAF and check out the VIAS intake manifold- if the car was driven semi hard it might not work no more and top end power will be - nonexistant.

Thanks for that. I'll definitely pull the coil pack idea. My salesperson is fresh on the job; it should work. Hopefully I can get them to drop the costs of a new MAF and VIAS intake as well.

I briefly test drove it, and I'm worried that its losing power at a lower RPM than the VIAS would indicate. I think it's closer to 4000 RPM, which I read could be the swirl control valve. How much is all this to replace?

Opinon - Do you think it's worth all this uncertainy for the reletively low price? or should I spend a little more for the assurance?

I'd either keep the 01 Max or buy a new 350z I would never downgrade my car from a 01 Maxima to a 90's civic si, that may be the biggest mistake that you will ever make in car purchases. If you don't like your Max then get something new for it like new wheels, a drop, or some other performance mods.

I don't care how much aftermarket support honda has. The civic is still a civic no matter how much money you put in it...He maybe young but common sense has no age limit

Look into a 3000GT Turbo. You can get a used one at a reasonable price. I need the room so the Maxima is King.

there is NOTHING that civic can give u that the max doesnt have except better gas mileage and easier spots to park. Max = roomier, faster, more features, newer, more potential in every way. Both FWD, why do u think a civic whether older or newer will make u happier than a max?

Since I ran quite a few of these Neons already from a 70MPH roll on, and spanked em does this make my car supper dupper mega fast ? Neon will never have any attitude or will it score you any points with the opposite sex. Unless you are then maybe opposite sex having interest in your car is not that big of a deal then....
