check tire pressure, also check for any major bumps or bruises on the tire. That seems to be the two most common solutions when wheel shakes at higher speeds

Get your tires balanced. If that doesn't fix it, it could be a a number of things. I had the same problem at around 70 MPH. I had all 4 tires balanced plus an alignment and the problem went away. The shaking started after I changed out my stock Potenzas to Falken 512s by the way.

At high speeds if your wheel is shaking it is your Rotors

( i had this problem in the past)

either get new ones that are auth fit for maxima OR get your rotors sharpened up.
also check the actual TIRED if it is swayed crack, my car use to go constantly left, and it wasn't alignment it was the left tire.

Not necessarily. It could be something simple like wheel balancing. The fact that the vibration only happens at a certain speed seems to point to that. Just because your problem was fixed by replacing rotors doesn't mean he has the same problem.

did they check your tires at all? because my moms 2k was doing the EXACT same thing and we even brought it to get balanced at NTB or something like that and it was still vibrating afterwards...so about a week after that, i took it to discount tires and he said it may be a bad tire...so he takes the tires off and shows me that 3/4 of them were cracked all the way around right by the wheel on the inside.....

yes..the sidewall that you cannot see....i'm not saying that's definitely the case for your car, but you might as well check to make sure...

Try this

I've actually encountered most of these situations (lucky me) and this is how I would evaluate it:

1. When you brake, does it feel like your rotors are warped? If you dont know how to tell, take it to a brake place and they will tell you for free. If so, the rotor can hit the pad when you are not braking and it will cause this vibration. It will also cause your rotors to have thickness variation and they should be replaced.

2. Tires that are not round, balanced, or aligned will also cause this problem. Firestone has a lifetime wheel balance and alignment for $170 I think. I got mine on sale for $100. You could also have more severe tire damage like a crack. Any discount tire or such will lift it up and tell you for free.

If it is only under braking it is probably your brakes. Otherwise it could be a few different things. You could have a CV Joint or Wheel Bearing going bad. Is it constantly at speed or does it get worse when the wheel is turned? Im assuming its coming from the front as you feel the shaking in the steering wheel.

Usually it is only a wheel weight or something if it is not your brakes but it sseems as though you have had them all checked so it may be a little more serious.

i had this problem (not with my Maxima thought) which happened after blance and alignments!. It would shake after 55+ mph. Although stearing componenet failure can cuase the same sign, I found out that one of my tires were not balanced right!. If you don't see any visable abnormality some where else, it may be wise to recheck the tire balancing.

I'm having similiar problems with my new Avon 550's.
Come see my thread in the tires and wheels section:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=425211

When I had the turanzas, I was often surprised by how quickly and easily I hit 70+ mph when not paying attention.
Now with my new Avons, I know damn well when I am approaching 50mph and I'm afraid to push it past 55 because the max might come apart at the seams.
I REALLY hope I dont have to send my tires back to Tire Rack and re-mount the turanzas.

Yea, it probably isnt a cv, usually they go bad they will make more of a clicking, grinding noise, especially audible while turning, when they start to go bad and usually do not cause shaking. Neither would a wheal bearing though if you had everyhting else checked these would be the next logical parts to look into.

GBAUER is right, some stations do not always get the balance right the first time, and sometimes you just get a bad tire that can't be balanced.

Go to a shop that has a hunter road force balancer. It will make a world of difference.
