What luck? It would seem that there may be a difference between model years in the way that the ABS line is routed to the brake. I was looking at Paul's write up of his RSB install and his ABS line is routed under the metal shield, where mine is routed outside/along side the metal shield thus preventing me from attaching the RSB brackets properly.

I've attached a composite picture of some shots I just took. The sixth thumbnail is a shot from Paul's write-up to give you a reference point.

Any ideas, or am I screwed?

Please advise ASAP as I'm sitting here with my thumbs you know where.

Thanks a ton!!!

2K1 members have gotten around this situation, but I don't remember what they did. Check all RSB threads... I'm sure you have time.

HAHAHA... you're so funny!

Actually, I've been trying to use the search engine on the following:

rsb
rsb AND abs
RSB AND ABS
rsb abs line
ABS

But the thing keeps coming back with the "Sorry, can't find..." message!

Dang it! I'll keep trying.

Boy, you guys are all comedians today.

Thanks for the support!

I found one post that was a little helpful in determining who had the problem so I've PM'd them. Hopefully they'll be checking it.

here's the link in case you're interested...

they give you two metal sleeve for you to bolt onto the frame and route your ABS line over the sleeve. this way your ABS line doesn't get pinched by the brackets.

I think 2K1's are slightly different, but

Actually, the sleeves are for routing the e-Brake line, I believe. I did some more looking at the bracket. It looks as though I'm going to need to grind off one of the places on the Maxima bracket that holds the ABS line. The piece that's sticking out is right in the way of where one of the Stillen brackets need to go.

As someone said in an earlier post on this subject, "back to the grind".

Update

Ok, I did a little Ooglie work. I bent the intrusive holder down to more or less conform with the rest of the metal ABS holder.

However, when I put the blue Stillen brackets on, there is a noticable gap at the bottom. Shouldn't these two pieces fit together. I tried it with both the metal ABS holder on and off and there was a gap both times (although without the ABS holder it was a tiny bit smaller).

I'm thinking the pieces will bend and come together under torque down of the bolts since the brackets are made out of alluminum (softer metal, right?... or am I on crack?). Would this be an "OK" thing to have happen?

Boy, this install is a thrill a minute!

Please advise.

Thanks!

Man... and I thought the addco install was a pain. Unfortunately, since I don't have stillen... yet... I can't offer much more advice than "try it and see"

no gaps in the brackets when I installed mine. They fit together nice and tight. Make sure they are positioned properly.

yep, 2000 and 2001 are different

I brought this up a few months ago (search my old posts) the 2000 and 2001 have different abs line holders. (I sent a message to stillen and they choose to ignore this fact. don't worry you have a few options.

1. remove the abs line holder all together. stillen said their blue braces will hold the line.
2. cut the flange that sticks out with a dremel
3. bend the flange down (this is what I did)
4. get the abs line holder from a 2000 (try a junk yard)

good luck and email me if you get stuck!!

I spoke to the installers at avalon and they do option 2.

DONE!!!

Took me a while and a bit of modification to the existing ABS line bracket-holder-thingamabob but it's done. File this beyotch under "experience".

As for the gaps, well they kind of went away when I torqued down the bolts. If my rear end falls off going down the road, at least I'll know why.

The ABS line is tucked under the Stillen brackets and has some play in it so I know they're not pinched which is always a bonus.

I wonder if there is some sort of modified ABS cover that was supposed to be shipped with the RSB. Hmmm...

Anyway, the only thing left to do is figure out what I should do with that Stillen sticker they threw in to the accessories bag.

Can't wipe my @ss with it... too sticky.

Suggestions anyone?

Hey, theMax, thanks for the reply. I, too, went with option 3. I figured if I got to the point where I aborted the mission, I could always bend it back. Also, the fact that there were three points on that bracket holding the ABS line, the Stillen brackets would have only accounted for two of them. The one furthest back would have been dangling in the breeze.

Thanks again!

Cheers!

Congrats!

Put the sticker smack dab in the middle of the bar facing the rear so when someone looks underneath they'll see "$tealin'"

I'm out of town, so I didn't see this thread until you figured it all out. Yeah the gap on the bracket goes away when you tighten it all down.

Looks like I need to modify my RSB install page to include 2001 variations.

Paul, thanks for your write up. Besides the ABS line bracket being different, your notes really, came in handy! I gave you props on my web page. Hope you don't mind.

TEST DRIVE: Impressions, closing thoughts...

Took my baby out for a spin this morning. Found some nice backwoods, country twisty-turvey roads and all I can say is DAAAAAAAMN! What a ride!!! (I still think it's overpriced, though *coughyoitsokcoughyoucanmakeoneforhalfthepricecoug h*)

Anyway, since I just modified my Max, I thought I'd modfify this little ditty...

Twas the day after the install, and all through my Max,
Not a creak could be heard, these are only the facts.
The sway bar was hung from the brackets with care,
In hopes that I'd find a corner and go as fast as I dare.

The driver was nestled all snug in his seat,
With visions of on-ramps being handled nice and neat.
And the FSTB bolted down tight and JWT POP-Charger singing its tune,
Were awakened from their slumber knowing a ride from hell would be coming soon.

When out on the backroads there arose such a clatter,
I sat bolt upright in my seat to see what was the matter. My finger to the window switch flew like a flash,
Rolled that puppy down while my right foot did the mash.

The sun glaring on the objects whipping by
Gave the illusion of a time warp, perhaps I could FLY!
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But debris from the woods that my vortex did shear.

My Max she performed so lively and quick
I knew in a moment the rear sway bar gave my handling quite a kick
More rapid than eagles my horses they came
And I whistled and shouted and called them by name:

Now, Grindstone! now Needles! now Darkstar and Strike The Gold!
On Alysheba! on Sea Hero! on Swale and Gato Del Sol! (sorry, can't begin to fit in the other 219 horses under my hood (all former Kentucky Derby winners, btw))
To the top of the toruqe band, through the other side of the wall!
Now dash away, dash away, dash away all!

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky
So through those tight twist and turns she flew,
With my Max full of spirit, and the Max pilot too!

Cheers!

I was thinking about that...

I didn't want to be assuming on how much HP that would be so I just left it alone. One of these day's I'll get it on a dyno just to be sure.

Thanks, man. As for pics, it's gonna be a long, long time before I put that sucker back up on jack stands and take the wheels off again. Maybe I could scurry under the back of the car to take a snapshot of the bar. And I did wind up putting the sticker on the bar. Somehow, I just couldn't resist doing it. Kind of like getting seduced by the dark side.

Cheers!

ok, I had my RSB installed by a freind, so I asked him about what he did to get around the problem.

He told me that he unscrewed the ABS clip, installed the RSB, and put the line over it, and zip tied it to keep it secure...

so far, no problems.

i cant seem to find my digital camera (uh oh), but when i do, ill post it up.

You know, the ABS line can actually be routed under the brackets. There's enough of a gap under where the Stillen bracket bows out.

Thanks for the pic!

Let this thread serve all who dare to tread into RSB territory and are as lame an installer as I am!!!

Viva la thread!!!

My solution was to saw off the back holder. I also put a teflon wire wrap around the ABS wire before putting it under the Stillen brackets.

Oooh, good idea! It'll have to wait 'til I go to paint my calipers 'cause I really don't want to have to take those wheels off again anytime soon.

Thanks for the suggestion!
