Car stalls when stopped

My max stalls!!!
It happends only when it is at a stand still for over a minute and it happens intermittently, once or twice a day.
Does anybody have any ideas on what it can be?
Thanks

You might want to check your IACV. Mine was doing the same thing before i changed it.

How hard is it to change and how much does it cost?

I paid 220 for mine and its very easy to change. Just make sure remember the order that you take it off.

My max did the same. It got worse over time. It turned out to be my mass airflow sensor.

okay, change your damn sig ^^^

seems IACish, but its USUALLY a regular thing, like when coming to a stop, or after revving the engine. is it completely random, like someone reached over and turned the key off, or does it stumble for a second?
does it start right back up?

Mine was stalling in park and stumbling in drive. In park it would idle perfectly for 20-30 seconds then just die for no apparent reason. After I changed my MAF and reset the ECU it was fine.

Check the ignition coils too. Could be the problem.

The car drives great the problem is when it's idling.
It usually happends in the morning or after driving on the highway.
The RPMs go up and down a few times then it dies.
It starts right back up but if I let it idle again it stalls after 20-30 seconds.

leaning more and more towards IAC.

a MAF will almost ALWAYS be accompanied by other driveability symptoms.

sounds like IACV to me. are you getting any codes?

my car was doing the same thing. it was intermittent at first, then it would consistently die when the throttle was closed (at idle). but when i had my foot on the guess, the car felt normal. it got to the point where i was constantly applying the gas so that the car wouldn't die, even when i was stopped at a light.

i got a new IACV for ~$200 from DaveB. i have a 2k GLE, and the IACV is bolted onto the bottom of the throttle body. it's not an insanely difficult a job, but it's no cakewalk either. you have to remove the airbox, and i ended up unbolting the throttle body to get to the bolts that fasten the IACV to it.

O.K.

I got my MAF sencor from dave B last night and installed it (this requires one to remove the air box and disconnect the battery for a couple of hours to reset the ECU) Drove the car today and the problem is corrected, not just the rough idle/stalling, but all hesitation and HLS the Car through the power band like never before!!!!!

My max drives great it's only when it's idling the stalling problem occurs, therefore I am leaning to the IACV.
Before I spend $100 on a MAF or $200 on a IACV I want to make sure I fix the right one.

Thats the vias fix, while it is a good idea to do it, that is a fix for the Varable intake air system, it is only in use at above 5000 rpm's. It's malfunction will not cause your car to stall, rather not allow above 5k. The way I see it, if u want to try a quick fix, do a TB clean and wipe. It may help a little bit, but in the end u are going to have to get the GREEN DOTs......

Heres a link that should help:

I had this same problem in my 5spd 2000 maxima...it turned out to be the spark plugs and spark plug wiring. the rpms would bob up and down a couple times, then die.

Did this happen when you were driving or only when stopped?

So far it could be the MAF $100, IACV $200, plugs and wires $400. So I can end up spending $700 for this problem

if you car only stalls when at closed throttle, and you can keep it from stalling by cracking the throttle (even a slight amount), the problem is likel your IACV...

both the MAF and ignition system will be accompanied by other driveability symptoms like hesitation, loss of power, etc.

it would only happen when i was in neutral...that would be when slowing down or stopped. (i do downshift, but it would be between downshifts or when coasting).

Update...
I did the TB clean and the car still stalled.
Next I did the Idle Air Volume Learning. The first time it didn't work, I tried it again and the car runs great!!!!!!!!!!!!
It doesnt stall and the shifting feels smoother.

this is my problem, my idle is high on first start up, like just over a grand but slowly drops to 600 or so and holds, but i was on the highway and it stalled three or four times as soon as i pushed in the clutch..... scared the poop out of me.....

I have seafoamed twice in like 10k miles and and th first time i also cleand the tb, worked great, and... can you clean the iac valve or must it be replaced??

That's exacty what happened to me...try the spark plugs and wiring...(especially for carbon build-up)

youre not supposed to clean the IACV... but its worth a shot. also try the idle volume learn procedure (forgot if the 3.0s do that one )

if it stops every time you start it, but you can keep it running by cracking the throttle, its an idle air control issue...

hope that helps

not everytime, but yes, that is the case, crack the throttle stays on, if i don't, it will stall so far 3 times in a row....will try to clean
