My neighbor up the street has a 2K1 black I30t and the paint is just FALLING off the hood. Damn, it looks really, really bad! Haven't really talked to him a whole lot as I haven't seen him but once while he was washing it and stopped by to have a look. I was almost brought to tears by the condition of his paint.

It's the same damn paint as the max's have. The paint on my 98 is doing ok, but nothing to brag about.

The VLSD does come standard on a I30T and I believe it is a option on I30M{maybe standard now?}. Build quality on the 5th gen I30's is supposed to be superior to 5th gen max's. My 98 has no squeaks or rattles, but then again my 95 max does not either.

Well I have a 98 5spd I30T so I can't comment on tranny lagging. I do know that the auto tranny on the I30 is the same as the max's except for having a VLSD which has no affect on the speed of shifting.

Re: Re: same tranny

I30 and max share the same mechanical parts. So the early 2000 models do have the same tranny slipping problem (like mine). I did have a Infiniti dealer refused to replace my TCM. So it really depends on the dealer.

VLSD is part of the Touring package, so onlhy I30t has it. It helps when you're getting out of a corner, that's pretty much the only diff I can tell.

paint chips? yea I got them. mainly on the front of the hood. But I assume it's because I do freeway travel all the time?

try mashing it from 1st gear and keep going for a while.. torque steer.. the car will pull to one side. if u dont have VSLD..

I rarely do that cuz the roads around where i live suck big time. I'll just end up bouncing between my seat and the roof.

what I always do is on freeway onramp/exit, bury the pedal when halfway thru the corner, with very little torque steer, the car will bring you around and take you out of the corner with ease.

But the tranny has started to slip more often now, takes some fun out of the driving.

Before I bought my AE I tested an I30t. The only differences that mattered to me were the suspension is stiffer on the Max and I purchased a manual transmission with my Max. I believe my AE has the VLSD from the I30t along with the extra 5 horses. Otherwise the cars are different mainly in appearance with a few available options on the I30 that I didn't care about.
