You could try masking off the hub area and using some sort of high-temp (brake parts) paint and go that route.

It's rust. How do you suppose you'll just "clean" it?

it's just rust. no, it's not pretty, but your pads will eat through the rotor before rust will. just get some racing pads and the brake dust will add a nice black coat over the rust.

WD40 will do nothing for rust.

Here are his options if he wants to keep those rotors.

1) either he can live with it
2) High temp paint on the hubs to hide it.

there are zinc coated (i think it was zink) available or you can get someone to coat your new ones. paint is not really something i would recommend.

the rotor gets quite hotter than the caliper

Wait, you think he should spray WD-40 on his brake rotors?

Are you sure that's a good idea?

I think he was referring to the area around the hub, which is ok to paint (with high temp paint, of course). Powerslot makes Zinc plated rotors that dont exhibit the same rust tendencies, however I believe the intent is to keep these.

Supplement the WD-40 with petroleum jelly.

How about just getting rotors that don't rust, like wooden, plastic, or carbon fiber rotors?
