DDE Problems
DDE Problems
My DDE's in like january stop working they started to only light up a pink/purple color. I bought replacements put them on and they worked just like new. A few weeks ago it rained really bad and the day after I step ot to check on my lights and well they arent working anymore. I checked my wiring and everything and it turned out to be that the DDE fuse was blown. I changed the fuse and as soon as I turned them on the fuse blew out. Am I right to assume that my ballasts have shorted out or can it be something else? I never had any problems with the ballasts before until now. I think it was because I moved them down and stuck them on the back of the HID ballasts, maybe water got into them. How much are the ballasts alone from Umnitza??
You should extend the ballast wires and mount them somwhere where they will not get wet. That's what I did. I mounted my drivers side up by the firewall and the passengers side on the fuse box cover. No problems for almost 2 years.
your ballets are blown, this is exactly what happened to me, all the way to the fuse blowing, if you got them from customenterprise, they might ship you the ballets for free, that's what happened with me or contact unitza and i believe it was $10 for shipping and the ballest was free, when you get the new ballets, its not necessary to extend the wires, might make the angel eyes dimmer, just seal the ballast edges with silicone or another type of sealant, (preferably permanent) i know home depot carries a weather-stripping sealant called "GOOP" that i used on my headlights and ballets, works great. good luck, everything will be OK.
mine blew out as well, but i've never had to replace a ring, i then got a new ballast and used some glue to seal them up and mounted them behind the HID ballast like you did, no problems for a year, and it works every time. Maybe you should try to reground, or clean the ground up. good luck!
also i remember them being 25 not 10, almost positive because i bought it twice...

Another good idea is to encase the ballasts in a waterproof case. I used plastic soapbar cases that you use when traveling. They sell them at Walmart for under a $1. Then I laid a thick bead of "Goop" around the edges to keep water from even thinking about getting in there. And, just incase you were wondering, if you ever need to get back inside the "case" the coop easily peals away. Good luck with getting your problem fixed.
