Y-pipe trouble.....

I just put on my y-pipe about an hour ago. I have a couple problems, when I go wot only in first gear there is like a knocking sort of noise ( sounds like something banging aginst the underneith of my car) I tried revving it up to see if maybe it was the engine pulling it or something. It only happens when I am in gear, and only in 1st. I have been searching it but I could only find problems with Warpspeed not cattman.

These are the things I could find but none of them have to do with cattman. When I first put it on, there was a leak near the front, I couldn't get the bolt tight enough, so I ran down to checker and got some nuts so that the y-pipe would fit right and so it wouldn't leak, could that be the problem? I have been trying to figure out what it has been for an hour or so any help would be greatly appericated.

check the heat sheilds. You might have to bend them further away from your aftermarket Ypipe.

I didn't put those back on. I couldn't get them to fit around it. Could that be my problem?

Try to shake that pipe around as if the car was going over bumps and whatnot. If it hits anything, then that should be your problem. You'll probably want to adjust your hangers to make more clearance.

Ok I just ran outside. I got it up on ramps and gave a few good hits up and kicks. Nothing I couldn't get the pipe to move. So I went to the front were the leak was and it didn't make any noise. Since I had to move the 02 sensor could it be possible that, that is the reason for the noise? The wire comes close (doesn't touch) the transsmission could that be it?

Do you have a general idea of where the sound is coming from? Front? Rear? Passenger? Driver's?
It could be the o2 sensor but I have the cattman on my auto 2k3 and I haven't had any banging problems...

Ok went for a short drive. Did a couple high speed runs. Sound is coming from right under my feet, I can feel and hear it. It feels kinda like the strechy stuff is getting pulled against the the bottom of the car (is that possible) it sounds like a streching sound.

From a start: problem starts then goes away after about 4k rpms, shift in to second problem back only when tires are cherping and a little bit after. (I only got to 3rd gear) 3rd problem is gone. WOT in 3rd no sign of problem.

I was thinking that maybe it is the strechy stuff on the y-pipe is the cause cuz on my old one it was pretty well broken in, but on the new one it hasn't been broken in so....I don't know

EDIT: noise isnt as bad when car is all warmed up

You're talking about the flex section, I assume....

I'm not really understanding your issues still, but with more info I could help. I had a Cattman y-pipe on my car before.

A leak wouldn't sound like what you're describing... it still sounds as if there is contact with another part of the car....

Im getting a sort of knocking/banging sound underneith the drivers side front. When I first installed the y-pipe after I started it there was a leak on the front part of the y-pipe, cuz I couldn't get the bolt to tighten all the way. so I got some nuts, and tightened it down. (I didn't go wot with the leak so I don't know if it was there before) Whenever I go wot I get the noise I tried describing before only when I go wot tho, I have gone over bumps and such to try and get it the noise but no luck. I can feel something under my feet hitting.

A couple things that it could be (i have been thinking about it all day)

1. possible that the 02 sensor is part of the problem, I had to pull all but on plasitc tap to get it to reach into the 02 port, and when I was screwing in the 02 sensor the wires were twisting around (normal?)

2. Maybe just a normal thing, the flex section is expanding under the load of wot and hitting the underneith of the car, maybe losen a couple bolts a little to try and help?

Im just throwing things out that it could possibly be. Thanks guys....

look for the black exhaust bracket towards the front. it may look like there is clearance but when the motor is under load, the exhuast will move. there are four bolts on either side. you can either remove it or use longer bolts and washers to create room. i removed blu's on his old 2k2 after his y pipe and the same on my 2k1.

+20

had to remove this on my fiance's AE. as sloppy says under load is when contact is made. i actually didn't use any washer type fix, just removed it completely. no detrimental effects to the car or the ride. try that and hopefully it should do the trick.

that knocking sound comes from the brace where the upper part of your B-pipe I had the same problem when I installed my y-pipe. I took off that brace and no more knocking sound. The y-pipe sits alittle bit lower than the stock that's why you hear the knocking sound.
