Yet another HID question

Hi Guys,

I'm considering getting HIDS for my 2k1. I don't want to spend over $1000 to get the Nissan 2k2 OEMs. I do like the OEM replicas offered by performance depot:

HIDS

I saw a post saying that these were pretty good quality and close to OEM. I assume that the light output is the same as the 2k2 which is 4300k? Does anyone know if I would be able to replace those bulbs with something higher? Would I have to worry about melting?

Another option would be to get a kit. How would the Helios kit be? Thanks in advance.

Steve

Higher temp (K) rating doen't mean higher wattage, it just means less light output. So with that said, it wont melt or anything like that the higher temp rating you go.

HIDs (xenon) actually run LESS wattage (power) than halogen filled lights.

NmexMAX,

Thanks for the info!

So do you guys think I would be better getting the helios kit or the 2k2 HID replicas?

roll4life,

How's the color on the 7000K? Is it more blue or white? Also, did you have any problems with glare or need to re-aim the bulbs?

True, except when the HIDs first turn on and draw more than halogen for a split second. This doesn't usually matter, but it has caused early fuse failure on some cars and thus the reason why some kits come with harnesses that get power direct from the battery with built-in fuses.

I have the Helios 6000k and while the output might not be as straight or directed as projectors I think they look nice and give an amazing light output as you can see from my post the other night. It's very good for the price and I personally think that every single projector setup i've ever seen on 5th Gen Maximas are pretty ugly and I would never want my headlights to look like that. I just put mine in and have logged quite a few hours in city and suburb driving and I haven't gotten flashed once yet so I say save some time and money and get some great output with an HID kit rather than going projector etc. but that's just my opinion

Hid

Im sorry I see all the dumb question hate posts... and yet I will ask... Whats involved with the retrofit of the 02-03 HID Headlights into the 00 SE Body style? I am a mechanic by trade and am rather handy however before I go and purchase a set I want to see if its worth it... or if a specific bolt in kit is easier...??? Thanks

i believe he was asking about the projector retrofit done by Dr. Roy and numerous others.

if thats what you are talking about, get the projector lights from ebay, then you gotta get HID projectors, ballasts and bulbs. I think the Borsch E46 ones that are best if your doing the hallogen to Xenon projector retrofit. go to www.hidplanet.com to get em.

however, if you were in fact asking about the 2k2-2k3 HIDs which are reflector bases hids, they will fit in a 2000 or 2001 Max, the only problem is the wiring directions. and to get them, you will have to prove that you did buy them legally, and provide some measure of proof, like say pics or if you live near another org. member getting them to vouch for you. When thats done someone on the org will be more than happy to provide you with the How-to.

I know this becuase I asked several times how to get the directions, and since everyone on here is concerned with HID theft and keeping our HIDs this is what we have to go through.
