I suspect you are going to be flamed big time for this.

Ask for Jody. They are located in the same time zone as you in Burlington, Ontario, a suburb of Toronto.

Do some research before you buy, alot of people have bashed the budget I was thinking about getting it also. Apparently it's not stainless and it rusts quickly. Something to that effect. I've heard great things about the cattman for 5th gens and that is what I plan on buying when I have the money. Most of the time you get what you pay for in the auto-world

Thats true Maxspeed. I know that I would like to buy stainless. The cattman is my first choice but the budget is so much cheaper.

I happen to have a Budget stainless steel y-pipe bought in June 2004 for my 95SE. There have been no fitment issues or bees in the can. I just passed emissions testing 3 weeks ago. There is absolutely no noise difference from the OEM y-pipe at idle or when cruising. At WOT, there is a bit of a growl that I quite like, but that is also partially attributable to my K&N panel filter.

There is no rust issue with the stainless steel Budget y-pipe.

Go Budget and save the difference on the over-priced Cattman product.

Don't get a y-pipe. I suggest you save you're money and get the new Cattman headers that just came out not to long ago. If I knew Cattman was going to re-release their headers a while back I wouldn't have gotten the Cattman y-pipe I have now, but that's my opinion. Anyway, I can't say enough about the company (Cattman) and quality of their products. Quality piping and welds. Good luck!

If you have a 01+ you need headers. A y-pipe won't get you much. A y-pipe in 95-01 makes almost as much power as headers.

A fellow .orger, in our local Maxima chapter, has one for his 4th Gen and the quality is quite good. However, they cost slightly more than the y-pipe and provide much less bang for the buck, like 5 whp. See the dyno on www.motorvate.ca

Nope, the fed spec 01 has a precat in one of the manifolds and the 01 CA spec has a precat in both manifolds. The 02+ fed and CA has a precat in each manifold.

Budget y-pipe = budget fitament + budget quality + budget materials. Spend a little more for the cattman or warpspeed, especially since you're in the Northeast, wehere you want it stainless. Ask SOONR1 about budget quality/fit/service....

Call warpspeed and get the group deal. The aluminized one is $160 and the SS one is $200 I believe.

so your saying that if you have a a cali spec 01 or 02+, you should get headers because the y pipe won't make much power? Unless you have a 95-01 fed spec, then the y pipe will make as much power as headers? How much power are we looking at for both situations?

95-00 fed spec has no precats in the exhaust manifolds
01 fed spec has 1 precat in one of the exhaust manifolds
01 CA spec has 1 precat in each of the exhaust manifolds
All 02+ have a precat in each of the exhaust manifolds

The difference betwen headers and a y-pipe on a 95-00 fed spec is a couple of ponies on a good day. On a 01 Fed, it's 7-10whp. On 02+ the difference is 15-20whp. On a 01 CA spec and a 02+, a y pipe makes a couple of horsepower on a good day.

If you want to save some money, have an 01, and don't want to blow $800 on headers, put on a 95-00 exhaust manifold and get a y-pipe.

FALSE - 2K fed-spec has one pre-cat... I have 2K fed which had pre-cat I replaced with a Budget Y... The pipes are SS... I picked it up from their shop and they installed it for me in less than half an hour... I was there :-) No fitment issues... I had it on for a year now and no rust on it (keep in mind I drove it through the winter and I am Canadian :-)....

Another point is that headers on a 2K won't gain you much as the guys mentioned, do some research here and most that was gained on a 2K was 10 HP. Now, since you are considering Budget Y-pipe for price reasones, I don't see you throwing $1000 or so for 10 HP... Y-pipe for yours is a best bang for the buck...

You replaced the precat in your 00 fed spec with the budget Y because it's in the y-pipe, NOT the exhaust manifold. In a 01, there's a precat in the exhaust manifold as well.

that is correct....

if you put a ypipe on a 00 fed spec, you eliminate the REAR precat, but the front precat will remain there. To get rid of the front precat, you would have to replace the manifold as well...

ypipe on a 00 cali spec eliminates BOTH precats.

ypipe on an 02-03 doesn't eliminate ANY precats, as they are in the manifold.

Are you guys saying there is another pre cat on 00 Fed spec? Where is it located? Here is a set up photo:

All I see on the front is exhaust manifold that connects directly to the Y...

That is fine if there is one in 01, but the guy asking question has an 00 like me :-)

Hello, I am retarded. got my cali and fed mixed up (jet lag...just got back from LA).

Fed spec aftermarket ypipe does indeed remove both precats, while the cali spec aftermarket pipe only removes the rear precat

sorry....must be that california smog getting to my head
