Clutch adjustment?

Clutch adjustment?

Is there any adjustment we can make to the clutch take up? All of the take up is at the very top, kind of like driving a big truck.

I have also had numerous problems with losing almost all hyrdraulic pressure at various times (the clutch). I took it to the dealer twice to see if they could pinpoint if it is a bad slave cylinder or master cylinder, and they could not tell. It has not been doing it as much lately, usually only when it is very hot outside, or if I have driven the car for more than 20 miles on the highway. The clutch is still operational when this happens, but there is no pressure on the pedal until it is almost to the floor.

So, when the clutch is operating "normally" all of the take up is at the very top. When it loses pressure sporadicly, there is no pressure to the pedal unless it's almost to the floor.

Anyone with KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE with this, please help me out here.

Note: The owner before me had the clutch replaced by a mr. cheapy transmission shop at about 55K miles. The car now has 75K miles on it.

Had the same problem with my max. Replaced my master and slave cylinder, and that fixed the problem. Have you noticed any leaks.....check your firewall.

Thats why the dealer could not determine the problem, as there are no "external" leaks. What did you pay to have those replaced? And how many miles were on your car?

ive had very similar problems on a miata i had, replaced the slave cylinder, but the clutch still never felt right, sold the car never did find out what the problem was. good luck man

i'm having the EXACT same problems. But it started after i had my friend play with clutch engagement. I have no leaks, never had to refill reservoir unless i was trying to bleed lines. Would like more info on this topic as well.

Got 82K on the car and I replaced the parts myself...about a 2 - 3 hour job with a buddy helping. I would guess if you have no leaks, then try getting your system bled first. If that does not work, then there may be a failure in master or slave cylinder.

Ryan: I just re-read your post and you mentioned that the car had some Trans work done at 55K. Was the master cylinder replaced?

No, no trans work done. The clutch was replaced, but they did not replace the master or slave cylinder.

The dealership flushed and bled the system, and it did not make a difference.

my system has been bled a million times, and same ish. Not sure if it was always done right since half the time it was me. Do you guys feel its ok to get master/slave cylinder from like an autozone or something? and how do i tell if these parts are bad? going to have system bled professionally and looked at before i make this investment. I walk like a dam pimp now.

I had issues with an autozone master cylinder: the rod was too long, and that caused a slew if issues, had to cut the rod and use spacer to get it right. Changed to OEM, and it fits right. If you go with autozone or similar, compare parts before replacing.

^^^ ahh, going straight to OEM but looks like atleast 100 bucks in parts if both cylinders have to be replaced. Must find out problem first. I think its just adjustments that need to be made cause both cylinders are moving and clutch works, its just that dam pedal.
