Exhaust Problem/Question/Advice needed
The other day I was driving and hit a rather nasty bump that was around some construction, after hitting it my car started to sound like a riced out honda civic..the pipe broke off where it meets the muffler. I some how missed the huge orange BUMP sign. Now my car is an '03, but in about a week I will hit 80k miles. I'd imagine that after that many miles it would fail, but has anyone had anything similar happen to them?
I took the car the Midas...240 for the muffler, 600ish total for the pipe (B pipe I think its called?) and muffler. The pipe doesnt need replacing yet, but it is pretty rusted. It'd probably be best to replace it all at this point right? I also took it to a local shop, and they couldnt even find the part to order.
I'm betting if I took the car to a dealer, it would roughly be the same price, but has anyone had this type of work done on their car? I'd imagine its close to the same setup across the 5th gen. If its going to cost me that much, well, I was just going to have a Frankencar put on as I'd like to keep my exhaust sounding as quiet as possible, and from what I have heard, the Frankencar is best for that while adding some performance.
So to summarize has anyone's exhaust broke in a similar manner, and how much did it cost to get it fixed? If its going to cost me 600 to get it back to stock..I'd rather pay that 600 and have a frankencar.

Yeah, the weld between the flange and pipe going to the rear muffler broke off; I had around 80,500 miles on my car when it happenend. I just replaced the muffler section with a cattman one. I didn't bother with the b-pipe since i don't have the $$$...
Go with the frankencar, it's made out of stainless steel too...

mine rusted through at the same place...cheap Nissan exhaust. I suggest you go with an aftermarket STAINLESS STEEL exhaust since you live in a rust-prone area.
If you want it to be about as quiet as stock, go with Frankencar. If you want louder, go with cattman. A frankencar bpipe and muffler can be had for around $500 and is much nicer than Midas/Meineke junk.

the flange is not stainless, thats why it rusts there. Yep, cheap Nissan.
Mine rusted too, I put sleeve around both pipes and clamped it with U clamps. worked for a while, untill some one rear ended me, so I decided to make a muffler suffer in accident and smacked it with hammer so that insurance would cover it too. They did, replaced b-pipe and mufler.
Now the front pipe starts to fall apart.

dang same exact thing happened to me and i got the full cattman cat-back last week, mines a 2k2 approaching 60,000 miles.
sidenote: bolts were so badly rusted that they had to be torched out. I had it on a lift hanging on it with a breaker bar and still no love!

DAAAAAAAAAAAAMN! Make me #7, with the same exact issue. Pipe broke off right at the flanges that connect the muffler and that other pipe (broke on the muffler side)
Midas says i need a new muffler, quoted me $401 for the job. $280 for the muffler,$120 for labor and tax.
I bought the same exact muffler they wouldve gotten for me, for $102 online. I asked the tech what kind of muffler they use on maxima's....he told me Bosal, and my estimate had the part # on there.. I found a few sites selling that same Bosal muffler and same part number, so i just got it myself.
Even if i struggle replacing it myself...at this point its just the principle. How are you gonna charge me a 300% mark up for something i could easily buy myself. and $100 for labor when it'll take 20 minutes to do.

Yep I had the exact same thing happen, only 55k on an 01 a few weeks ago. Midas wanted $450 for the muffler and pipe, except another shop said they were still good and not rusted yet, it was just the flange. I had a citgo station weld it for 60 bucks.

Well I just got an email back from FC, they are out of stock on their cat-back for 6-8 weeks...now what the hell do I do? I dont want it to be that loud, so I am kinda turned off by cattman, plus its alittle more expensive than the FC, and I'm not loaded right now, heh.
This damn thing is frustrating

It broke literally right where the muffler pipe meets the muffler, not the joint of the B pipe to muffler pipe. I think that made sense....
I took a look at it to see about getting it welded, but its way too corroded for that. I asked FC if their muffler was in stock, maybe I can put that on first, then when the pipes come in, put them in. Not sure if thats a good way to do it or not. On to the classifieds..

I saw several exhaust FS threads in the Classifieds, so try there first. You could also hit up a junk yard to see if there are any wrecked 00-03s.... any of those years would do for the rear section.
If ya wanna spend a little more, get something stainless steel so it'll last ya longer, seeing how ya live up north.

Not very on topic, but does anyone know what size and bolts are used on front sectioon of exhaust? I want to put in stainless bolts and nuts in, so that i know what to get approximately in HomeDepot.
Thanks

Mine broke in the same spot after i went over a railroad crossing. 2001 with 51,000 miles....i just had them weld it back together since it was before where the b pipe and muffler met. Worked perfectly for $40 but cant comment anymore since i got a custom catback a month after. good luck.

Nissan Maxima - European model
please help,
I have Nissan maxima A33 year 2000 engine VQ30DE but EURO model. I am tring to purchase an exhaust system for this car, but no one can confirm if it is the same as the US model. I called several producers. I also searched an the only thing I found is that:
nissan maxima(euro) A33, 3.0V6 = infiniti i30(usa) A33, 3.0V6 = nissan cefiro(asia)A33, 3.0V6
Can someone confirm that or help with an advice.
Thank you in advance
