Welcoming myself to the 5.5 gen family.

Like the title says, I bought me a 03 super black SE 6-speed, fully loaded. I'm coming out of a 95 gle auto with stillen hi-flo intake, Greddy Sp2 cat-back exhuast, diamond slotted rotors, goodridge stainless steel brake lines, kyb adj. struts, progress springs, progress sway bar, generic front strut brace, optimum yellow top battery, dc clear bumper lights, cefiro headlights,(had CE red clears but sent them back), & 18x8.5 KMC Picasso wrapped with 235/40/18 BF goodridge kdw2s. All I gotta say is "what took me soo long to get the 5.5? I love it!! The power, the options, the 6-speed tranny, & did I mention the power? lol I have a question about some of the parts from the 95. I know it's a different chassi but would the strut brace and sway-bar fit the 03 and how about the stillen intake (let's not get into the whole stock is better thing)? How bout the rest of the parts? Thanks for your help in advance!

question about the 6 speed

i have a '00 5-speed. i was just wondering how the driving is different with a 6-speed? are the ratios different for the lower gears, or is the 6th gear just mainly overdrive for highway driving?

6th gear ratio is .64 i believe, goto cars on boston.com and do research, has most ratios for most cars

remember not to go below 48mph in sixth!

The 6th is pretty much only for highway driving... and yes, the ratios between the 5 MT and 6 MT is very similar.

Here are the gearing numbers:

1st 3.285
2nd 1.850
3rd 1.272
4th 0.954
5th .795
F/d 3.823

1st 3.153
2nd 1.944
3rd 1.392
4th 1.055
5th 0.809
6th 0.630
F/d: 3.812

welcome. I came from an auto 5.5 to a 6speed and i am in love. the auto was fast but the 6speed is a beast especially on the highway. I can't believe how much of a dud the auto is on the highway. my 6 speed never seems to run out of steam like the auto did. In my opinion all SE 5.5 gen should have been manual. if you want a auto get a GLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!

Tell me about it. 3200rpm at 80mph is to much. Wastes gas. It's great when you need to pass but thats what 4th gear is for in a 5 speed.

Thanks for the welcoming. I was going to keep the 95 as a project car, but once I felt how much power this beast has, I decided to sell the 95.

No pics yet due to rain. But I'll try next week and throw some in of the 95.

don't fret...though I'd like the 6th gear as well - having driven both my 5sp and an 02 6sp I can honestly say that the 5sp shifter is FAR superior in smoothness and positive shifting. The 6sp is way too "clunky" for my liking.

If they could have just made the 6sp with the same mechanism our 5sp had, it would be perfect.

I hafta agree with you on this one, the 6spd trans is annoying but maybe thats because im spoiled with honda transmissions

I know I should be asking this in the audio forum but for those of you with an upgraded system, where and how did you get your power wire through the firewall?

Have to agree to this as well, although I don't mind the difference. I originally had an '00 5-spd but moved to a '02 6-spd early in '03 and had generally experienced the same as Irish stated above. I believe my enjoyment in the move actually came more from the upgrade from the 3.0 to the 3.5, but that's just my humble opinion.

Glad to hear you enjoy your new acquisition!

I have a 95SE, 5-speed, and am curious to know what the rpm is at say 70 mph on the highway in 6th gear. In 5th, I am at pretty well bang on 3,000 rpms.

A few things. I just got a 2002 blk/blk 6-speed and I love it. The power is smooth and always there. Don't worry about the clunky shifter when on the highway. You DON'T need to downshift. Revs are 2200 @70mph and 2500 @80. At that rate, you could make it to 215 mph with a stock tranny if drag wasn't a factor. Damn drag. I got 33 mpg avg on a 45 mile highway strip at 80 mph last night. This was with an engine that wasn't turned on in over 2 years. Want better gas mileage? Go 60-70 with cruise control and use the 18 wheeler in front of you for drafting. You'll get 36, easy.

Yesterday I just got my car. I put some nice ASA rims and tires on my car. ASA EM9 from tirerack.com looks good with Continental ContiSportContact 235/45/17 tires giving a perfect fit for the rims. I need spacers for the back wheels. Maximas would look so much better if the back wheels would line up with the car's outer line. Anyone know where go get some 10-30 mm spacers? Also I'm making a ghetto intake this weekend. Exhaust will cost more though. Anyone know where to get an exhaust kit or rear sway bar cheap?

I had 15 mm H&R spacers up front and 20mm spacers on the back wheels with 235/45/17 tires on OEM TE rims. I purchased them from here .... http://www.optionsauto.com/products.asp?dept=417

Hmm you might need a little bit of horsepower....

Was this an average MPG for that distance or for a whole tank? Come back after you've calculated an entire tank... .

Yesterday I just got my car. I put some
the stickys..

Hey chigga, My 03 SE/TE is black on black, fully load with vlsd except navi. and tcs (If that was an option?) With 23,3?? miles on it for around 20k. Got it down in Norwell,MA. They had a hot merlow one with same options for the same price, except it had 28k miles, I think it had an additional cd changer. PM me if you want the info. on the place.
