Next time you all drive your cars, Could you check something for me?

What I am requesting is very simple. In fact, it is so simple, that it requires almost no effort at all to check!

What I would like you all to do, is next time that you are out for a drive, just press your brake pedal. That’s all. But when you do, please note approx. how far you have to press the pedal down before you start to feel the brakes grab.

The reason I ask, is because I have noticed that I have to press my pedal about 1-2 inches before it starts to grab, and I think that it may be abnormal. My brakes work fine, and I can stop well... but it just seems like there is too much travel.

So before you answer this question, PLEASE go out and drive you car first, and not just answer... unless you are positive you know your answer without having to go for a drive. I want to collect the most accurate data as possible.

Oh, and if you have aftermarket brake parts, please list what you have, and if it changed how far you have to press the pedal down. Thanks!

Same here.

My FX is different -- grabs right away at slow speeds. My brother's SC430 is similar, but his RX330 is a little floatier, though.

When i first got my car about a year ago my brakes where touchy as hell pushing real light was like almost the pedal all the way down. But recently i have to push the pedals about a 1 or 2 inches.

Hmmm, Good information guys. I thought I was the only one here.

I have a few things I need to get fixed at the dealer, and before having me come back with "this is normal" speech, I figured that I would just check with you guys.

Now, since we are already on the topic... anything I can do to make my brakes firm and sensitive? I know the normal SS lines and what not. anything else I can play with under the hood? I was driving a 2004 G35 today, and I got spoiled.... I got into my car and screamed with disapointment and jelously. lol. j/k.

I used to have that "mushy" feel where it would take a couple of inches before the brakes would grab firmly. I then swapped the pads with Axxis Metal Masters (on Powerslots and ATE Blue fluid) and it just became worse - however aggressive braking was very good on the MM's. Eventually i got tired of it and wanted more pedal feel especially for emergency brakes and short stops. I then had the pads swapped with Hawk HPS and after several thousand miles the pedal is now nice and firm.

It's not as good of a feel as that on a Murano or FX, but at least it doesn't fade as fast as in those two vehicles.

By the way, by comparison i felt that the '05 G35 brakes were just plain soft.

you may have to bleed your break lines...you might have air bubbles in the lines
