Ending a lease 4 months early?

Anyone ever do this? I'm sure it could be done without any penalties if I wanted another Nissan, but I don't.

Here's what I got:

2002 Maxima SE LOADED, everything except Nav.
it's a 39 mo. lease with 12k/yr, I now have only 30k miles.

Why don't I want to wait it out?

I'm tired of the car and it's problems.
-Bose headunit replaced 4-5 times, 2 times because of dealer negligence
-Transmission replaced at 23k miles - who knows why
-Numorous memory seat issues, dealer had the car for two weeks over 3 different occasions.
-Already had to replace tires (shouldn't be a surprise)
-Already had to do brakes and they are getting crappy again, don't want to do them again before I turn it in

Has anyone had an experience where the dealer helped someone out (stop laughing, seriously... ) and got them out of a lease because of ongoing probs? I'd hate to have to pay the balance and just roll that into another loan... but then again if I keep the car through the end (warranty ends in Dec 05) who knows what I might get hosed on if something else craps out.

It's a damn shame too because I really love the way the car drives and performs.. it's just been in for service more than my effin FORD!

Looking at a late 90s LS400 as a replacement... if the insurance rates are reasonable. Of course no Nissan dealers around have any on their lots for me to deal on.... argh.

Let's see....too late to use lemon laws in your state and you will not find a Nissan dealership that will "help" you unless you are looking to lease another Nissan. Even then, I bet they will roll or hide that money somewhere in the price of the car.
I would do a search for the car you want regardless of whether it is a Nissan dealership or not and work the deal so that they either pay off your last four months or take it off the price of the new car.

I don't understand why you would not wait it out for four months though. You've had most of the major stuff fixed, just take it easy for four months and hand the car in and call it a day.

This is kinda long but sounds like exactly what your describing...

YEP thats exactly what they'll do- my girlfriends dad got an 05 Pacifica last January on a lease, was gonna buy a used loaded 04 but they switched and said the brand new "base model" 05 was a better deal.
They promised a mid $300 payment, it ended up being $435- first 1000 miles the alternator craps out and has to be towed, next theirs a recall on the headlights, next around 6000 miles the ABS light kept coming on and they replaced two wheel speed sensors within 2k miles, it needed an ignition module because of the alternator issue and needed rotors because it shook when you braked. All within 12,000 miles-

now for the "good" part (theirs no icon for "dealerships suck" or else i'd use one here) It was almost $29,000 in jan. 05 and although its a lease, it still shows how much you owe. He had it down to 22k by last month, and Chrysler finally agreed to let him trade out and buy an 06 PT Cruiser, base model so it was only $16,5. Now heres where you might lose money depending on how much you owe on that Max- he wanted to do a striaght buy and not a lease so they took what he owed on the CAR (22k) and subtracted the Trade-in (mind you, the car was never actually purchased) of 18K, giving it an extra $5000 added to the cost of the PT, just to get OUT of the Pacifica. They ended up financing him for just under $21,500 for a 16k car, but still got the payments to $370.

So, its up to you, theiir issue was the car beign a piece of crap and the payments being high. Funny thing is he actually wants a Nissan but he had to go through CHrysler. However you could do a straight buy on a Nissan and trade it in for whatever car you DO want.

When you say owed - is that the residual amount PLUS the amount of lease payments left?

I only have like 4 payments left ($353.xx) but like I said - if I have to put any more money into this car before March I'll be PI$$ED. I have a feeling the brakes might not make it.... (I had the front rotors cut, not replaced, when I did them the first time).

Yeah, thats what it is, the residual amount- theyll add what you still have to pay them plus the cost of the new car minus the trade on yours now
