Terrible Gas Mileage...?

OK this will be pseudo long but here goes.

About 3 weeks ago my SES light came on. And my gas mileage went to the sh!tter. Got the code pulled. Forget the actual code number but it was something about the car running lean. Dave B and autozone said those were typical signs of the MAF, so I ordered and installed one.

I forgot to unplug the negative from the battery when installing, so after installation when I fired up the car, the SES was still on. That night I left the negative disconnected overnight. The next morning the light was gone, so I figured, cool, all's well.

Typically I get about 380 miles per tank. Recently, (the past 2.5 weeks or so) I've been getting about 280 if I push it. The car feels fine, drives fine. The pickup may feel the slightest bit sluggish, however it's not that bad so I can't tell if it's my mind or if it's actually true. I have no CEL/SES lights on at all, and my engine/exhaust/intake is all stock.

I really don't know where to begin and what to check. My maintenance has all been on schedule. Last major maintenance was at 30K. Oil changes have been frequent and regular. I've got about 51500 miles. I don't even know what to do because I know this is wrong, and my wallet is not happy. What could my problem be?

Thanks all for the help, God bless.
