that smell means your cat is working, not dead.

Kabir does it smell musty or like rotten eggs? A musty smell indicates mold/bacteria in the HVAC. Rotten egg smell points to a bad cat usually but try changing the brand of gasoline you use before making any decisions.

maybe you ran over a big piece of roadkill. also if it was just temporary it could be that there is a dead skunk around where you drove by or the smell of rotting trees.

because you only get that smell when your flooring it it means that you CAT IS DOING ITS JOB. It is eliminating one of the by-products of combustion and it creates this smell. Once your because accustomed to you "flooring" it or enough residue builds up inside the cat the smell will happen less and less and be less smelly until it will ultimately go away.

When i got my car from my step father he never floored it or anything. When i got the car and began pushing it same thing happened...but it goes away.

Yep. If I don't floor my car for 3 days or so and never go above 3K RPM, and then I floor it, it stiiiiinks. If it happens ALL the time, then your cat is fried. If only once every blue moon, then it's fine.

I have the "musty smell" from time to time in my 03 and I also had it in my altima but figured it was from the rusted out floor boards in that ride. Any ideas on how to get rid of it?

Autozone sells a product that you spray diractly into your vents to kill the mold - Im sure other auto stores sell it as well.

to what everyone has said.

I don't know how high the price of gas in NJ is, but I'm glad to be in NC with $2.19 a gallon of premium.

Same thing happend to me. My O2 sensor died on my catalyic converter, so i went and bought new one and installed it. I put the regular gas in, and w/e i floor the car, or if i go over 3000 rpm, it starts to smell really bad. First of all i thought, it was my e-break, but than i figured out that it wasnt, than i thought that it was some gas coming from A/C but it wasnt. And it still does that, do you guys have any idea what should i do. And yea, my maxima is really bad on gas for some reasons, i had wider tires and bigger rims during summer, but now during winter i've put my old stock 2000 maxima rims on, and it still is bad on gas. I can barely go 250 miles per gas tank, on h-way i can go 400, but in city i am really bad. Is it cause' of my catalyic converter, or is it something else. And i changed my sparkplugs too, like 1k miles ago.
SO PLEASE HELP ME
THANKS

OK I'm probably the most serious one here, 2 things happened that made my car smell NASTY:

1) My dad screwed up my MAF, running rich so smelled like gasoline.

2) Driving on my local roads, there are LOTS of SKUNKS out here so you smell them through the vents. When it's winter and it's cold, you turn on your HEATERS. But then you smell HOT SKUNK. It really does smell like rotten eggs, but I'm not too sensitive to it. Nor-Cal... Skunks, who ever knew?
