People with cut springs.

Does anyone here cut their springs to meke their ride lower, lowering springs, or the the stock ones? I did the research and couldn't find anyone who did this for a maxima. I was wondering about the side effects that you had after cutting the springs. I know it's suppose to make the springs stiffer, but did it mess up your spring rate at all? Just was wondering about this. Thanks.

Isn't it an unsafe practice? I don't know why you'd go through all the effort of taking the springs out without replacing them with superior aftermarket springs.

just get some actual aftermarket springs....the ride AND handling will be better than cutting your stockers. You can get some maxspeeds for under $100.....

cutting OEM springs is always dumb and results in crappy ride, bounciness, and poor handling.

Very few people do this because it is very hard, you are much better off getting some aftermarket springs.

Edit: it's not that it's hard but you have to know where to cut and what to do after it's cut, to get satisfactory results.

I'm pretty sure that it is possible to cut you original springs and get good results but is not a job for some backyard mechanic. Basically you have to reengineer the way your springs work – which requires multiple measurement tools and a degree in mechanical engineering.

Hey guys thanks for the responses, but I'm already droped on Eibach, and Tokiko Blues. Not planning on cutting my OEMs at all. I was just wondering about this. I wanted to hear more about cutting aftermarket springs then stock ones. Just wanted to know if anybody has done this at all and what effects you had afterwards.

Springs for maxima are cheap and a whole bunch of brands available in the market. You cut springs when you own a car and no one has springs for it here in the U.S or the only thing you can do is import coilovers from Japan, ie the Q45 I havn't done that yet

People have already told you, you end up with crappy, unsafe handling. Springs NEED to be a certain length, to expand and take up the slack when th suspension becomes unloaded. If you cut your springs, you get rid of that built in tension holding your strut assembly together, and you spring can dislodge from the strut assembly, causing severe steering and suspension issues. In other words, you can die, and kill others on the road around you. Do not cheap out, if you want to go lower, buy springs that allow it. Cutting springs is dangerous no matter which way you try to do it, stock or aftermarket, there is no 'Proper Way' to cut springs.

NO, its not a direct bolt on. And next time, wait until you can start your own thread, and do not reply to this one further. Threadjacking =

Ok thanks everyone. I'm not planning on cutting the springs anytime soon, and don't know if I would at all in the future.
thanks anyways.

well i will finally chime in. i have 3 sets of lowering springs so i decided to chop the intrax, they stink IMO. I cut 2 coils off the front and it rode the same on my car. you know why? because they are designed like azz. the ride was never good. the rear was saggy and always bottomed out on the stock bumps and mounts. now they are on my cousins car and they ride like compleat azz. i cut his bump stops and the ride went stright to poo. basically they always rode on the bumps even before they were cut so the ride never got any worse.

but if i only had 1 set of springs i wouldnt cut them. its just not a good idea. the only benifit is being lower. there are way to many cons, like the springs falling out and loosing control.

cutting the stock springs is a compleat joke since they have way less coils already. ive seen it and its not pretty.

In a nutt shell dont cut them.
