Ontario Insurance Question

Hey folks, just wondering if anyone has had to deal with their insurance company dropping them or refusing claims, because of modifications to their vehicle. I'm sure alot of people have stories but has anyone been able to deal with or work around the system to their favour.

I am doin this for a buddy of mine who just got into a large accident with his prelude and he just found out today that his insurance company claims his car is a race car and are dropping him. Only thing really visible is an air intake and a muffler.

Thanks guys any suggestions would really help

I'm a little confused. Did the insurance company cover the damage? And what do you mean by "visible"? The adjuster would have given the car a thorough look see. Also, who was determined at fault?

Unfortunately,my friend is considered at fault and the insurance company doesn't want to cover anything.

By visible i meant that at first glance it's the only thing on the car obviously modified. I'm not sure how the adjuster would notice a clutch and flywheel.

Sorry for the confusion

I don't see any reason for the insurance company not to cover the damage. Your friend should threaten to take them to court. The insurance company will probably agree to settle before the case gets there.
As for refusing future coverage, the insurance company is well within its rights. Even if the car wasn't modified you can still be denied coverage if they think your are a dangerous driver. And the fact that your friend is at fault gives them plenty of reason to believe that. He will have to go to another insurer you specializes in that sort of policy and unfortunately pay through the nose for it.
