Yeah, I think I'm staying with my stock headlights and upgrading later to an HID kit. The headlights definitely looks better with the AE mod. I can't wait to put them on.

Not really sure if you can because of how the headlight housing is on the 3rd Gen. You could definitely do it on a 4th gen.

I worked on a set that I bought from an org member so I didn't really get a chance to remove my headlights yet but I read that you take off the two bolts on top and there are clips on the bottom and on the side (by the signal) that holds the headlight in. Make sure not to break the clips by forcing it out.
Whoever has taken their headlights off please correct me if I'm wrong.

Nice writeup, I have not done this yet because I was afraid that if I mess up a headlight... I have no car till I get a new one. But the Max will be sitting all winter so I will do it then.

honestly, at first I thought taking the headlight apart would take a long time but it only took about 25 minutes and i didn't have that much trouble. The step that took the most time was rubbing off the chrome. It took me a long time to rub all the chrome off cleanly.

There are two 10mm bolts on the top of the headlight housing. Once removed you will want to pull the headlight out the front of the car, not up, towards your body. Pull the inner corner of the light until the corner pops out past the grill. Now there is still a metal snap rod that is on the marker corner that you will need to pull out as straight as possible. This will ensure that you will not break the plastic retaining clip that locks it in. In this picture you are looking at the metal snap rod. The housing is lens down, with the marker side closest to you. The right side of the picture is the top of the headlight enclosure as you can see one of the supports that you pulled a bolt out of.

Be patient, this is the key!

I wish I would have known this before I painted my I30 headlights. Although I guess I did want to go with a matte black instead.

I believe that you have to paint the '02 headlights. Don't quote me on that, but every post that I have read on the subject says that they painted theirs. If you pop it open make sure to make a clear lens for the indicators.

It would look hot if you could just rub the chrome right off the 2k2 headlight. I guess trying to open up the headlight will be the same as the 2k one.

Did you polish the inside of the lenses? Mine seem to have a haze on the inside that is somewhat annoying.

When I did mine, my headlight was not really scratched up like the one in the other thread. It just had tiny scruff marks and a yellow haze. I just used a scratch remover that I got at Walmart and it help a little bit (not great though).

I didn't use anything but a soft no-lint cloth to wipe out the inside. At first I thought the haze was on the inside but after I opened up the headlight, the inside was fine.

Read posts #20, 23, and 24 to find out what I did and see more results.
