Thanks for this forum ... I have a 2001 Maxima AE with the Bose system. I owned previously a 98 Maxima SE, also with the Bose. My 2001 does not have the clarity that the 98 had in sound quality. I have adjusted bass, treble, balance, etc. The sound seems muffled, even distant. When a song of any degree of bass is on the radio, I hear slight vibrations/rattling. The rattling is not bad, but I do hear it. I also hear it only on some songs, not on all. I do not remember this problem with my 98 SE.
I am wondering if the one big speaker used in the 5th generation could be the difference. (My 98 had 2 on each side in the back) At any rate, my car is only two months old, so I don' think the speaker is bad or damaged by use. Has anyone experienced this problem? Thanks

Yes, search around in this 5th Gen forum and you'll see numerous posts about the rear deck rattling. Check out the stickey at the top for a potential quick fix, take it to the dealer, or Dyno Mat the rear deck to silence the rattles.

I respectfully disagree with your post. I do agree the 4th gen had a good system but I feel the new Bose system has even better imaging, seperation and clarity. I think the biggest area it lacks in is the bass reproduction. Hopefully mdeal will repost his fix for the rattle, it was excellent. I took mine to the dealer and they repaired it.

In case you didn't know, for the 5th gen, they moved the two rear speakers from the deck into the rear door panel in order to make room for the "one big speaker" and amp.
There's a lot of good info. on fixing the sub rattling problem... so good luck.
