Installed MAF, still problems

Hey guys, my car has experienced stalling in the mornings after cold starts and power loss at 3500rpm. I installed my new MAF yesterday and the power loss at 3500rpm is gone. This morining when i started it up, it seemed fine. It idled way longer than it did with the bad MAF. On the bad MAF it idled for about 10 seconds and you would hear the engine sputter and stall. I would have to sit there and baby it(give it gas) until it warmed up. Well i started it up today and all seemed well. A couple minutes later, the engine started to sputter a little(but it didnt die) so i hopped in the car in put it in drive and the RPM's slowly started to drop. It hit about 500rpm going down my drive way. It felt like the car almost died but it revived it self after i popped it in Neutral.
I havent had my codes reset as from what ive read, i didnt need to. (Maybe i do) But im running lean codes on both banks. Could it be my spark plugs? dirty fuel filter? my idle positioning sensor? I really hope its not my injector themselves. I really dont have the cash to pay for that. All help is appreciated.
Thanks Fellas

Check the plumbing to the intake.

Lean codes typically mean your MAF is

Do a tune up, and see what happens, or who knows, maybe you have new codes now.

Dang I used to stall out like that, but when I put a new MAF on, it all went away. I'd hate to tell you to spend the 80-100 bucks on the computer upgrade it's asking for in the MAF box. I let my car go for a few days w/o the software update, and it worked great. I still opted to give them the money to update it according to the spec., but my problem was solved immediately.

I wish I could help. Sorry =\

It sounds a little like IAC valve problem, not being able to maintain the idle and all... Did you do anything with TB?

On a second thought, one of the things you may also try to do is idle re-learn... I think procedure is somewhere in the stickies...

Outmaxxed,

I had similar symptoms after installing a new MAF on my '01. My engine would stall out when coming to a stop while putting the clutch in. I consulted with a Nissan mechanic and he advised to get the ECU reprogrammed using Nissan's Consult-II machine. They basically download a new program onto your ECU such that the computer is able to identify the new MAF and the service also involves resetting the idle. Right now your computer is confused and doesn't know what RPM the engine should be idling at. With the older vehicles, idle used to be set by adjusting the throttle screws. On our Maximas, it is necessary to adjust them using the Consult-II.

After I got the reprogram, my Max felt like new. No more stalling, power and fuel economy was restored. The service is about 1hr's labour ($82 CND) not sure how much it is in the States.

Hope this helps.

5MGE - which dealership did you take it to? I've been trying to set up reprogram of mine with a mechanic from Nissan Mississauga for weeks now, supposed to have it done this Saturday but in case it does not work out I would like to take it elsewhere... Thanks...

Well, I live out in the east end so I took it to Ajax Nissan. They're not usually that busy. It might be kind of far for you if you live out in the west end. Nonetheless, let us know how it goes on Saturday.

Well I seem to be having a similar problem. I just installed the new MAF and the car started up just fine. Revving it up seemed very strong, but when it came down off the revs the car would just die. I have no idea why, but it seems the higher I rev it, the harder the RPMs fall and then go to 0.

I would lean more away from the MAF if the car is dying. I would lean toward what igzy mentioned about the IACV may be bad.

SOONR1 - Your Max definitely needs the reprogram. I had the exact same symptomes. Revved the engine up high and then the needle would just bury itself.

That problem happened to me after new coil packs. I recently put in a new maf and the problem is gone. I didn't get the reprogramming yet.
