Help: My ABS light is on; 2000 Nissan Maxima SE

Hi,

I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima SE. My ABS light is on & it will not go away. I just got a new instrument speedometer cluster because my old one got stuck on me. Anywho, my old speedometer works fine & all except for the fact that the mileage is stuck.

Well, I just bought another speedometer. All works fine but my ABS light won't go away. I put my old one back in & the ABS light went away after starting my engine. But for some reason with this new speedometer, the ABS light stays on.

Please advise. Thanks in advance.

On your old cluster does the light come on for a little bit then go away? Maybe you have always had a problem with your ABS and are now catching it with a working cluster/light. I would put the old cluster in....if, in the motions of turning on the car, you do not see the ABS light up at least once, i would say that either connections are bad, light is bad or something else is messed up on that cluster. At this point you need to troubleshoot/check out your ABS. anyone else have any input on this?

Actually now that I think about.............I dont think so.........its a different analyzer for that.......

The ABS does send codes to the DCL connector but it seems that most consumer type scanners wont read them. Ones made for techs, such as at http://www.diagtek.com/index.shtml, can usually pull powertrain, body and chassis codes.
If you can find a website for the scanner your looking at it should tell you if it can read ABS codes.

I did put the old cluster back in & yes, the ABS light did come on and went away. On the other hand, with this new cluster...the ABS light comes on and stay on.

Thanks for the input.

if the cluster you got is from an 01 max, that is why the light is on.

On your old cluster the light comes momentarily on just like the rest of your warning lights, just to confirm that the bulb hasn't burned out.

Don't know why it's on with your new cluster since I I don't think the cluster feeds back any information to car systems. Possibly, there's some kind of short in the cluster which turns on the light even though the ABS system is not sending an error.

Is the new cluster, really new, or purchased used? You may want to go back to who you bought it from because it might be defective. Would be nice to check using a known good cluster but you'd have to have a REALLY good friend with similar car who would let you pull it out of his/her dash just to check yours.

either there's something wrong w/ the cluster or within the ABS system itself

The new cluster that I just got was bought used from a junk yard place out of town.
