Any regrets w/ 19's & mild drop?

I have my H-tech's and Iluminas ready to go on .

And I'm ready for rims. I'm concerned w/ doing 19's do to the drop and some what crappy roads here in NJ.

Looking back does anyone w/ 19's wish the got 18's ?

or Anyone that went w/ 18" wished the went up 1 more?

I did the search and cant decide on what I found/
Any help would be great.

Thanks, Mike

I have h-techs and illuminas and I ran 18's with a 245/40 tire. I liked the ride alot but the wheels looked kinda small. I put my friends 19 on with a 235/35 19 and the ride was really harsh even with the illuminas set low. Im thinking of now going with a 19 but with 245/35 and hopefully that will be ok.. Hope this helped

I have Eibachs/Illuminas (4f/4r). During the summer I run 19s and I do not regret buying them at all. It is stiff and harsh, but I am used to it and I just try to avoid the major potholes in the road as much as possible.

I guess the only regret I have about my purchase was not getting a wider wheel....mine are 19x7.5 Minor gripe, no huge deal.

You can't buy cheap tires with 19's. Ride is affected HEAVILY by tires, not just springs and struts. Try putting some chromed out 6" wagon wheels on your car... the plastic tires are going to ride like ****.

235/35/19 tires with s-techs and illuminas... awesome IMO... love the drop and the ride is only harsh in certain areas... NYC.. Philly.. so on... just be careful and that combo can be one of the best overall!

For the winter i'm on 235/40/18 with s-techs and illuminas... still fine with me...

Tires have ALOT to do with how the car rides, not just the size of the rim. A 35 mm sidewall may look better but ride harsh as hell on rough streets, while a 40mm sidewall may help slightly. You also have to remember that some brands & model tires have stiffer sidewalls than others. Some falkens have metal belts designed into the sidewall, making the ride stiffer (for more performance, less roll)

*edit*
it also depends on the weight of the rim - if they're big fat chromies they'll typically weigh more than a high-model performance wheel, such as a forged aluminum rim, etc. and as a general rule, heavier wheels offer a better ride, less performance.

I have no regrets going to 19's. I only wish I had gone staggered just for the more agressive look.

The closest 19" tire size to the stock tire diameter would be 245/35/19.

I've never once wished I had gone up to 19's...18s look perfect, not too big, not too small, and there is enough tire sidewall to handle the crappy roads around here.

I would never get anything larger than 18" for Maxima.
19" look oversized, slower acceleration, crappy ride.

I've driven in Cali many times....you have nice roads there. The guy asking the question lives in Jersey - they have the worst roads I've ever been on (besides perhaps NYC)...worse even than our terrible roads in DC.

this is correct, our roads are destroyed and always get worse before they get better. i am runnin 245/35/19s and have no regrets, however, i did this purely because i think the car looks better on 19s than 18s, especially because 18s with a lip would look like 17s.

anyway, im dropped on s.techs with a 3/3 setting and im fine with it. im on pathole patrol 24.7, but i love love LOVE the look of my car with it. if you are going for function tho, handling, ride, etc, irish is right, 18s are better, there would be no benefit to the 19s. his setup is excellent and he is on G35C 18s.

I'm paranoid even with the 18's....I actually bent one of my stock 17's in a pothole that was unavoidable....I guess I drive too fast to avoid all the potholes

its tough, and i still hit some things and freak out. thank God i havent bent these 19s, or my 18s on my old car. if there is anything in the road, i tend to avoid it. sometimes its best, IMO, to just go straight into it. 75 mph on the highway and you see a pothole 20 feet in front of you? just hold the wheel tight and hit it straight.

but anyway, you know the roads in your area. since ecko is in NJ, id say get 19s for show only, and if you always wanna be on the lookout when you drive. 18s will be a better ride, and more tolerable for daily driving.

regretting 19s

I have Eibach prokit Hp blues with 19" Moda R6s /255/35/19 Continentals. Rather have 18s. I am tired of ducking and dodging road imperfections all day, especially on unfamiliar roads. I already had replaced two wheels so far. Might sell and go down one size, but the car sure looks sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

I have to disagree. I live in the Inland Empire area (riverside, fontana, moreno valley, colton, etc.) and the roads and freeways are ****. Take a drive on the riverside/ moval 60 freeway and dodge the potholes at 70+ mph in thick traffic. I am sure some of you know what I am talking about. I got 2 flats in less than 4 days on the 60. I never drove in NY or Jersey, and I am in no way saying our streets are worse or better.

If you're leaning towards the 19's get them. It's going to be annoying if you're going to end up with 19's anyway down the road....do it right the first time...................

there's some streets & driveways here in SoCal I wouldn't dare drive down in less than a lifted truck, and the potholes that ARE there sneak up on you & are the depth of the F&%*ing grand canyon. Alignment killers I call them .

you have crappy roads? then dont get them. I live right next door to you man, and the roads here are crappy as well. I have one rim that is sitting in my house bent right now, and I paid over $2000 for my rims/tires not even a year ago.

I will NEVER but 19's again if I even see one pot hole in my area. I hate having to cringe everytime i can not avoid a pot hole.

If you want to be cool and have 19's, and money is not a option, go for it. But if you are like me, and you have crappy roads, you dont want to lose a filling everytime you hit bump, and you like worrying about if there is a pot hole somewhere... then go for it!

Seriously, I wish I had someone tell me this when i bought my 19's.
