p0021 error code please help

seven weeks ago i bought a 2k2 se. all was good until i slid into a guard rail and cracked it up, but that's a different story. anyway today my ses came on and i went to autozone and was told that the code was the p0021. i went home and went here http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/ecu.asp and came up with the same code P0021 - IVT Control (Bank 2).

i have been searching the the org (the poor mans way) and have come up with nothing. please don't flame me, i wanted to become a donating member but i am not signed up for paypal yet.

can anyone tell me what this could possibly be? the car idles and runs smoothly. can I continue to drive it or should I park it until I get it fixed.

Sorry for the long post, and thanks for any and all help.

I got the same code. I've reset it once hoping it was a fluke, but it came back again after about 1 month. The car is '02.

I've read the FSM, but not able to find the following:
- Is engine Bank 2 the closest to the front of the car?
- Where is IVTC located? How much do I need to take off in order to get to IVTC plug/harness? How much do I need to take off in order to remove/replace IVTC (bank 2)? How difficult of a job is it? If I can change my brakes and fluids, will I be able to do this?

How much do they usually go for and where is the best place to buy? I am mechanically inclined, but just got the car a few months ago, so do not know a lot of things yet.

Does anybody have experience with this code? I tried searching everywhere, but am only coming with this thread which is not much help...

The car runs absolutely fine.. no symptoms, enough power, no hesitation...

Thanks in advance!

Bump -- Same issue here. My shop listed this code as "Bank 2 Timing Advanced". Would this make sense?

Edit -- n/m: search revealed this to be true. Ignore the noob.

Already had the recall done though.... getting P0021 only. I guess just replace the sensor?
