B-Pipe Removal

Hey, I was wondering, since my car was lowered, I keep on scraping the b-pipe on the ground when i go over certain bumps even if i go slow or at an angle because it is the lowest part on the bottom of the car and its in the middle. Its all dented up...

I was wondering is it possible to remove it and put 2 1/2 inch straight pipe there instead?

Is it gonna change the sound of the exhaust?

And dumb question, What about power increase?

your car doesn't look like its dropped that much; my car is low and i haven't scraped my b-pipe. you might have a broken exhaust hanger, which will cause the b-pipe to sag. You can get an aftermarket one and replace the stock b-pipe; sound will depend upon the size of the resonator. A larger resonator corresponds to a quieter exhaust sound. Expect about 3-4 whp from a good aftermarket b-pipe

my car from the pipe to the ground is 4 1/2 inches. I was thinking of taking out the whole b-pipe. I know it would get louder but wondering how much. The pic donest really show the drop. cuz the car is on a hill.

what springs are you on? I've seen some LOW maximas and they don't seem to have any problems.

as stated above, I suspect your bpipe is hanging low from weak hangars, etc. Take some hose clamps, wrap them around the exhaust hangars on the bpipe, and crank them tight to lift it up some.

My car is pretty low and I have never hit my B-Pipe, I also have my hangers clamped with O-Ring Clamps. The clamps tucked up the pipe nicely.

I think its just hawaii roads, they are full of pot holes, and bumps, everywhere and anywhere, i am running eibach, in the front tire i can stick 1 finger between the wheel well and the tire of the car, and rear kinda tucks a bit.

So i just want to gutt it less hassle and less weight right?

what shocks do you have? eibachs should be a subtle drop... i don't know if they should be tucking your tires in the rear.

i'm running eibach/illuminas, and i have room for two fingers in the front and 1 finger in the rear.

I agree, you should first inspect your hangers prior to just installing a new setup. Sounds like the logical first step to narrowing down the issue.

Um, yeah, removing the B-pipe would be a lot louder--especially because you wouldn't be using your muffler... the exhaust would come straight out of the catalytic converter. Not really a good idea. And the chassis has a curved insert underneath for the B-pipe, so installing some kind of "straight pipe" isn't really doable at all AFAIK.

I'm assuming by removing the b-pipe he really means replacing it with a custom 2.5" unresonated pipe to the muffler. At least, that's what I hope he means.

puppet, whats what i mean, its gonna be a custom 2.5'' pipe to the stock exhaust which will later be changed out to the cattman rear section.

i put a 2 and a 1/4 inch pipe on my 2000 maxima s/e today and did away with the resonator. from the cat to the stock muffler. the exhaust sounds a little more robust kinda like a baby trans am but it is in know way loud at all. the loudness will come if you take of the stock muffler and put on any of them aftermarket mufflers. the aftermarket mufflers cannot help themselves they are just some screaming babies.

Do you want any power gains from your exhaust mods or just sound/looks?
