need help on muffler/exhaust

hey guys this is my first thread
ok here is the story,
when i got maxima i was really stupid and i bought an advance auto parts $70 muffler, i did not know what i was thinking. So its on my maxima right now, and i do not like it, it looks way too small for maxima. What muffler should i get? should i go with Greddy, is it worth buying it, because its kind of expencive, should i go with Apexi N1, or dual tip muffler. I do need one with a silencer or one that is not as loud, because my family travels with maxima at least twice a year, and we dont want muffler to be really loud when we are driving.

thats a pic of my maxima with the muffler, thats how it looks now.
pls help thank you
huso

Check out the classifieds for the 5th gen, and buy an OEM muffler.

Read through the exhaust sound clip sticky at the top of the page.... there are sound clips and I posted the relative volume of a few set-ups.

My muffler flange was rusted really bad from NJ winters, so I took it to midas and they put a crappy midas muffler on it for 200. I drove it around for two weeks, it had a deep tone to it but...i hated it. Found a wrecked 00 Maxima here in ATL, and went back to stock for $35 for the OE(almost new, unrusted) muffler, and 30 to install it. GO OE, or cattman, frankencar...just my opinion

Cattman sounds great with the Gen 2 headers. Needs a month or 2 to mellow out though.

The OE muffler for our 5th gens have a great design and is freeflowing. Unless you're muffler is rusted and/or falling apart, I'd would keep the stock muffler.

if you want one that is almost as quiet as stock when cruising, and a bit louder under WOT, go with Frankencar....dual tips that are a nice size, but don't look ricey and it's stainless steel so it looks nice and won't rust.

or go with a stock muffler.

Greddy is loud and ricey sounding IMO, as is Apex'i

If you are looking for tips for your stock muffler, go with Acura MDX tips, they look great on my car and fit perfect as well.

PS- thnks Blackbirdvq!

PSS- I know I said I would have pics... But I am far from my car and I should have them next weekend.
