any rotors out there that dont rust

ive had a few different types of rotors on my max, and after a few weeks they rust really bad and look horrid, are there any good rotors out there that dont rust so fast, im looking more for the rears, ive got frozenrotors up front and really like them, unless i can get nonrusting with the same performance.

any suggesions would be awesome.

Do you have pics of rusted rotors? I have never seen them rusted unless the car has been sitting for a while. In which the brake pads just get rid of all the rust when you put on the brakes.

its the "hub" part that rusts, the area in the middle that the pad doesnt touch.

ummmm rotors are steel. steels rusts.

not too much can be done. VERY high temp paint on the hub only or a cadmium plating might be an option.

I think your rotor will rust whether you like it or not.

Last time I checked rotors were made from Iron. I'm not sure steel would make a very good agent for stopping power in such a heavy car (in most any road car for that matter). I've heard of Ceramic rotors on expensive cars and I think that maybe a ceramic coating but I'm not sure.

dismount your tires and wipe CLR around the hub area if you want a quick but temporary fix....better yet get new rotors and get them rust protected its around $30 cdn per set down here

Never had an issue with my powerslots. The hubs dont rust. Powerslots FTW

or just buy yourself one of those Porsche CCBS (Ceramic Composite Braking Systems). They are an 8800 dollar option on porsches. Time to rake through a junk yard.

I got my CAD plated powerslots from Fastbrakes a while back and they rusted after 2yrs. Was told to clean em with steel wool and denatured alcohol? Gonna try dismounting, CLR, grinding, and paint this spring when it warms up.

many of the brembo rotors sold by our dealers on the org come zinc plated

you can also get any rotor plated by a reputable shop. The only part that will rust afterwards is the plating that is rubbed off by contact with the pad.

Or you can be baller and go with ceramic rotors, I don't think those rust

He's right. I installed zinc plated rotors months ago. Rain or shine, I get none of the nasty-looking rust on the "hub" part that isn't touched by the pads. The part of the rotors that gets rubbed by the pads originally didn't rust, but I'm using some very aggressive pads, so that part of the rotor gets some rust spots on it now when the car hs been sitting for a while. That rust naturally gets rubbed away by friction when I have driven the car and uesd the brakes.

On the Zinc plated!! Check out my 4th Gen domain for pics of my 13" cobra rotors, obviously there's no rust where the pad makes contact and on the rest of the rotor, including the hub they are as clean as new due to the zinc plating, this was important for me as with the 13" cobra's there is a fair amount of the rotor the pad doesn't make contact with. These rotors are awseome BTW and only
$95 for both!

Yea, you could always paint the center of the rotor with high temp paint. Use a wire brush to get the rust off, clean it down with brake cleaner very well, then paint it over with any color you like. Or paint it over with a greyish color if you dont want it to stand out. I did this on mine and it looks good, it did not damage the rotors at all, and now I have some rust protection.

The wire brush attached to a drill will get it smooth enough to paint and have it look good. Some people say to sand it down, but you really cannot get it much smoother. The wire brush only removes the rust and will not do anything to the steel.

I don't know about Civics, but I did watch a special on rides and they were showing carbon fiber brakes on the racing Corvettes.

Hello...

What's the best brake kit out there for a 2000 Maxima?

I'd imagine I need to change to bigger wheels, right?

After you replace them, while they're still ne, get some high temp anti rust spray from homedepot. (I never did this but it should work well.)

Just rotors or the whole thing? (rotors, callipers, pads)?

I second the powerslot rotor option...i have it on all fours of my max and they have seen a lot of wet outside weather yet they haven't shown any signs of rusting...had them for a year now...

anyone using rotora rotors, they sell them at sco.com, they seem decent. im normally not into the whole drilled and/or slotted thing. but if theyre good then why not. im thinking either these or the powerslots, if i did all four, which i probly would the powerslots are a lil less that twice the price, think its worth the difference?

I think you guys mean CARBON rotors, which start off as pieces of carbon fiber baked until they've fused together into carbon and all excess resin has burned off.

They are used in Formula 1 and definitely will NOT shatter, split, etc
