okay. some chick is asking me to race her and i agreed. tell me what you think. she's driving a new camry v6 auto.
i'm driving an auto too and all the stats i've seen for the maxima are for the 5 speed, so i don't know what my car's capable of.
i know the toyota's engine only produces 196hp, but the reviews i've read for the camry v6 give it a 0-60 of 8 sec.
what are the times for the maxima auto?
i know i'll annihilate her in the mountain twisties, but i want to know that i'll win in a straight line too.
if i lose to a camry, i don't think i'd have the nerve to show up here again.

You will win, just shift the auto manually and get a bit of power braking going before you launch. You shouldn't have a car in the world against a stock camry.

 

Agree with FloMax. Auto's have nice tricks for racing.

 

I agree with Flowmax. If she is planning on just flooring the accelerator from the start she is toast.

Recap: Bring your auto shifter all the way down to '1', press on the brake (all the way down) and rev the engine before letting go of the brake. I drive a 5 spd so maybe someone with auto experience can tell you to what rpm you should rev before releasing the brake.

I dunno guys, stock vs. stock it'll be a close one, but you've got a CAI so I think that should put you in front with little worry. Most mags show the Camry V6 hitting high-7's/low-8's to 60. But consumer reports tested an automagic 2k Max and they got 7.8 to 60. That's about what my Accord V6 will do, but you guys have one advantage over both of those cars.

Power shifting.

Your auto tranny shifts at 6000rpm or so, 500rpm short of redline. If you power shift so that the tranny shifts right at redline I know for a fact that you guys can do mid-7's to 60 which is quicker than my stock Accord V6, and this Camry V6.

Are you sure she's all stock??

TRD has superchargers for that thing so maybe her husband (if she has one) dropped one in it to make it an ultimate sleeper!! (or maybe she did! ) And they're rare, but 5-spd Camry V6's do exist, and they're just as fast as a stock Maxima 5-spd, so watch out for the sleepers.

 

ROAD & TRACK got 7.8 seconds 0-60 in an auto 2k maxima.

 

Let her win and take her out for a congratulatory beer!

one thing tho. i've been trying out the power braking thing and my wheels keep hopping. they'll hop a little even with no braking! i think i'll just find a nice incline.

I have both 99 camry v6 auto and 00 max auto...camry seems faster at low end...maybe b/c its loose pedal. but max dominates at high end for sure

Back on the issue at hand...
When the magazines do the road test, they just put the trans in D and floor it. The Nissan tranny is set to shift at about 5500 rpm this way. If you manually shift, you will take about .2-.3 seconds off of the mag times. I have tested this by racing a civic on the street. Without manual shifting, I will only win by 1/2 car, if I manual shift, about 1- 1 1/2 car lengths. Go get her...
