are the 00-01 black plastic mud guards paintable?

I was thinking about purchasing these but came across the idea of painting them myself. Has anyone done this? Is this surface paintable. I dont know too much about painting but how many layers of primer, paint, and clear coat do i need if i were to do this. Any help would be appreciated
p.s. car is sterling mist..

they are paintable, but IMHO you should take them to a shop to have it done, w/ 2k urethane primer/bc/cc. rattle can paints will fail and look like crap in no time

The mud guards I got for my AE were already painted. I thought Nissan made body colored mud guards for the regular Max (non AE).

I think it may be cheaper and better to just buy the pre-painted ones from Nissan. The only thing is that they only come pre-painted for the 2k2-2k3 models. But, they do fit the 2k-2k1's perfectly, but only for the rears. The fronts leave a gap, since the 2K2-2K3's come with side skirts. I only say this because, if you get a body shop to paint them, you might as well buy the body-colored ones from Nissan.
