5th gen Hesitation

So here's my issue. I just picked up a 2000 SE 5 speed and I love it, but there seems to be a slight hesitation everytime I hit about 3300 rpm.(It doesn't matter what gear I'm in, I can still feel it.) Has anyone else had this problem? The car has 92,000 miles on it and when the dealership recieved it on trade in they replaced all the ignition coils. It also has a K & N factory replacement air filter, but other than that it's completely stock.

Any ideas????

Yeah, I considered the MAF but I thought that the MAF would probaably throw a code. Hmmmmm....... may be I'll try cleaning the MAF and see if it helps any.

Any other ideas????

Could still be the coils. I would have them check them to make sure that you did not get a deffective coil. While it is there... have them check the MAF if it is bad they should cover it.

I had the same problem on a 2k 5spd--just replaced my maf last weekend. that was the problem. Since you have the k&n drop in filter, theres a good chance its your maf. an overoiled filter can greasify your maf. btw, the maf usually does not throw a code. There is a way to check it that WILL throw a code. Basically, open up your hood and test each prong of the maf (while the maf is still connected) with a multimeter. it should read out certain results. if not, id replace or try to clean it, although i doubt cleaning would really help.

i have some similar problem... but today all of a sudden my SLIP, TCF, and ABS light (all orange) came on at once... the car drives fine but it seems to hesitates and also is very hard to start... take me about 2 tries just to start the car and I have to press on the accelerator just to get the car start the 2nd time... what could the problem be?

I just changed spark plugs by the way... and tomorrow i'll clean the TB and IACV (idle air control valve?)

Check and make sure you all your coils are plugged in properly. I think the Slip and TCS lights come on when your coils bite the dust.

what coils are you exactly talking about... and what are the functions of a "functional" coil?

Anything do with bad startups? If that's it... that could be my problem...

also how long can i go with the bad coils? I drove about 50 miles when the lights came on the highway!

I think I have a similar problem, never thought it was really a big deal till you mentioned it, but lemme see if this is the same. Basically floor it and watch the rpm raise from 2k to about 4k steadilly then, with the pedal still floored I feel it almost accelerate faster at about 4k to 6 or 7, Shouldn't it accelerate the same throughout the band? Is this the same thing Gjohnson said or am i just retarted and missing something

No, actually my Max accelerates steadilly from 2k till about 3.3k and then the ride slightly hesitates then countinues to pull.(Just not quite as hard)

Ive just registered to acknowledge the same problem in my 02. Mine hesitated b/t 2k and 4k rpm, so I brought it in to nissan. it was a recall r3022 - crank position sensor. Fixed the hesitation... but guess what else they told me.... bad MAF, 2 bad coils and 2 bad o2 sensors. Anyone know where to get this guy Dave B?

Dave B (Burnette - I believe there's another Dave B there now) is 888-254-6060. Mention the .Org when you order.

Regarding what you said, you just refreshed my memory about something (I have the same problem with hesitation you had). When I got my first CEL, I took it to a mechanic who I now remember, since you mentioned it, said it was the crankshaft position sensor. I ended up not fixing it and then several months later got tired of seeing the light and took it to a different mechanic to fix. They hooked it up to the computer again and told me ignition coils... said nothing about the crankshaft position sensor... so I replace my coils myself and the light goes off and I think nothing else of it.

Now that you mention this, maybe that is my problem... does anybody know if a problem that was originally causing a CEL could still be a problem and not be throwing a CEL? What's the best way to proceed with this without blindly replacing parts? (Plus... I don't remember WHICH crankshaft position sensor he was talking about... and I believe there are two).

Variable Air Intake System. You get a "VTEC" kick but it has nothing to do with the cams. It's just a variable intake.
