Hogan (yo_its_ok) said he was going to be prototyping some coilovers for the max.....sure you don't want to wait for those

I just met with Brian Catts at Stillen day. He gave me a ride in his car (with the 2nd gen coilovers) and there is absolutely nothing to complain about. No harshness, no noises, no problems. If you can afford them, you'll love them. They are a bit pricey, however.

You guys keep saying there a bit pricey? Are they more than the $1750 that he has poseted on the cattman website??
If so then how much are they?

The ride is firm, but I wouldn't consider it harsh. In other words, when going over speed bumps, I didn't feel any kidney damage. To me, THAT'S harsh.

If $1750 isn't pricey to you, then you won't regret the purchase. I was referring them in context to other Coilover alternatives such as the GC/Koni combo, which can be had for under $1000.

As far as im consered ground control isn't a real coil over beacause it's not fully threated. If you look at some of the coilovers out there for other car they start at 1500 and go up to as high as 3 grand thats why i said that. Besides ive invested so much in my max at this piont I could own a benz amg clk 55.(Thats prob what I should have jsut got)

It's possible.

It requires a serious effort at matching shock valving for both compression and rebound-- as well as leaving a decent amount of compression travel (aka don't be a riceboy and lower it so much).

I've ridden in Barry Chafin's car with 380/375lb springs (Cattman genI coilovers) and it was smooth as butter. Very stiff, but not jarring by any means except on the worst pavement.

I've ridden in Andi's Supra with Eibach/stock. Definitely a little rougher, but not bad. He said it's MUCH smoother with KYB AGX's since the shock rates are increased and match better with the Eibachs.

I've ridden in my friend's `90 Integra with H&R Race springs (400lb?) and Tokico Illumina shocks. It's stiff as f*ck and is downright bone jarring at times, because the car is just TOO LOW. 2.75" drop I think is what it settled down to. Ouch.

I've ridden in a gen4 with Ground Control/Koni (not sure of spring rate), and it wasn't nearly as butter-smooth as Barry's car. Koni's have just too much compression damping for his setup-- but I don't know his spring rates either so don't ask me-- the said setup could probably be improved greatly.

I've ridden in my friend Andrew's `98 200SX SE-R. With Eibach sportlines (1.9" drop)/stock, it sucked. Not as bad as my friend's Integra, but close. With Ground Control (I think it was 350lb/200lb, I forget) and KYB AGX's it was much better, but because he had it so low (he dropped it 2" I think-- he's since raised it back for auto-x) the ride was pretty jarring.

I've ridden in Jeff (MadMax - 97SE)'s Cattman genI prototype setup with the Koni shocks and 375lb springs all around, again it wasn't as good as Barry's Cattman genI. BTW, all Cattman setups I rode in were set to full stiff for auto-x.

So yes...

It depends very much on the springs, spring rate, available suspension travel, shock rebound and compression rates.

A non-jarring ride on most surfaces is possible, even with 400lb or 900lb springs... it's the tuning that is the trick.

My plan for these coilovers is to just get rid of the little bit of gap thats left. I run 19x8.5 with 245-35 rubber and currently use the eibachs and they ride good but theres still some gap. I drive the car everyday so I plan to just drop it so the gap is gone and the ride is smooth so I'm gonna not set it to FIRM. You think this will work out to ride good?
