Xenon headlight question

Hello everyone,

On my 2000 I30, my passenger side Xenon is purple The driver side is fine...its the normal blue. Why is the passenger side purple?

Please help me out. If I need a new bulb, wheres the best place to get it from? I called DaveB and he quoted me around $180 shipped. Good price?

Anyone have theirs for sale? Do I even need a new bulb or is it something else causing it to be purple?

Thanks,

Omar

If it's giving that purpleish look, I would definitely check the ballast first. But before you do that, try swapping the driver's side bulb over to the passenger's side and see if it still lights up purple. If it does, then I would definitely say it's probably a bad ballast. This will save you time in dropping money for a new bulb when you don't necessarily need one.

Where is the ballast located? Besides doing the bulb swap test, is there another way to find out if the ballast is bad? Is it hard to remove?

Thanks for the reply.

i have a set of 4300k stock phillips bulbs if you need em. they are on ebay now with a day left.

as for your question...the ballast is attached to the bottom of the headlight. you have to remove the light to get at it. try the bulb swap first.

Purple means the bulb is going bad, it's gonna go out completely pretty soon.

I'd try what the others said - swap the bulbs to verify that it is the bulb going bad.

And if you need a bulb - don't buy one from ANY dealership. You can get OEM bulbs on eBay for like $40 or less. All you need is a regular D2R bulb.

..Might want to replace them as a pair though if you care about the color being the same on both sides.

The ballast just FYI, is underneath the headlight assembly. Also, if the bulb IS bad, you may as well as upgrade it to some aftermarket brand, which is cheaper.

Dude it is the bulb. I have had this happen twice to me already and each time the color went from white to a pinkish color then it was giving a quick blinking effect then it went all the way out. There is a group deal going on right now http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=403059
