Wow resale value on 02’s has dropped dramatically.
I know that Maxima’s suck for resale value but I was shocked to find that the private party value of a 02 6 speed in excellent condition is $12,500. I am sure they go for a bit more than that realistically, maybe around $14, but that is still low. These cars seem to be a great value for a good all around package. Sure it’s a family sedan but its quick, looks decent, has a decent interior, gets decent gas mileage, and is reliable. It may not be the best in one category but it does them all pretty well and it seems like you can get a great deal on one. Once I get my first “real job” I may end up getting one to go along with my Jeep (since its getting old). Do they have a supercharger out for the 02-03’s yet?

Based on KBB the value has dropped a bit. But they are still selling for 17-18k where I am for lower mileage 6-speeds. I know you can pick up a high mileage one for around 14-15k. I purchased my 02' 6-speed about 5 months ago for 18k. It was fully loaded and only had 26000 miles on it. The dealership knew it was rare and wouldn't budge much in the price.
And no, there is no supercharger out for the 5.5 Gen Max

I still see them going for 16-18k. Prime example http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...=en&cardist=17. People are still kinda paying a premium for 6 speeds...

yeh i noticed the drop too. i got my 2k2 6 speed with 37k fully loaded for 17.5k. i traded in the 02 automagic for it. they sell for a good amount from the dealer but i noticed when "we" sell them it has dropped

Hello,
Price on cars varry. I have seen a buy it now price on ebay for an 02 6 speed with 44,000mi for only 11,500. I woudl have bought it right then and there if I had the money. I think the value of cars are based on Location, Condition, options and miles and whatever the person wants for it. I still say that prices of cars are messed up anyways.

It really depends on luck as well. I had my car listed on here for 6 months before it sold. I had no reason to sell, but I ended up getting $19.5K for my '02 blk/blk loaded 6-speed w/ 18K miles. I have to admit, I do miss it at times.

Bought my '03 6MT for 19k 2.5 years ago. It had sat on the dealer lot for months so they were ready to let it go on the cheap.
Sadly, 2.5 years later, looks like she's only worth around 14.5k sold private party. Bah, I'll keep the Max till it dies anyway. I drive it hard everyday and it's never given me a single problem...oh, okay, 4 Bose headunits. That's it.

I just pikced up my 03 6MT TE this week. It had been on the dealer's lot since 12/6 which was great info to have. The sticker on the lot was asking 21995 which was ludacrous. Online they were asking 18995. Car is fully loaded with heated seats and wheel with just under 38k. Basically the same car as housecor but I have frost leather. I took it off the lot for $18k.
Very fun car. Still getting used to the torque steer. Certianly grabs your attention the first it jumps left or right. Just spent the last 2 nights detailing it. Never owned a car that needed a claying as bad as this one.
I too plan on driving this into the ground. I will be driving about 22k miles a year for the next couple fo years so this car is going to be loaded up on miles in a hurry.

Just bought my 02 SE with 71K for $10,800. I think I got a fair market price from a private party that had dumped a lot of money in a lot of the pricey repairs that are prone to Max's. The dealers here in Charlotte suck, they wanted about $15K for the exact same car.

We lost 2 local 5.5th Gens recently: dblrr900 recently traded his 2002 6 speed in for about 13K.... Gooey traded his 2003 auto in for about 14K a few months earlier... not sure what the miles on em were, but those are decent trade in values, IMO.

My 2003 6 speed SE with cloth, sunroof, no bose, 34k was 17,900 when I bought it a year ago, January 2005. Still has the original potenzas(they get terrible grip and are starting to look petrified ) so I know the person didn't beat it up, and yes, they passed inspection last month(43k). It was clean, smelled nice, and they fixed a pretty serious dent/scratch on one of the panels.
I think the drop in price has to do with all the 2 but mostly 3 year leases ending, I remember a year and a half ago, just finding a 6 speed was hard and they were really charging for it. I think dealers have probly been complaining to kbb too cause their prices weren't reflecting poor trade in values during that whole employee pricing thing. Like people say, it depends on location, etc., some places have more market, some places there isn't.
Oh yeah, and unless you want a warrantee, I say never buy from a dealer, find someone who took care of the car!

I just got my 02 Black on Black 6-Speed fully loaded (except heated seats and nav) for 16k w/ 40k miles. They had already dropped the price from 18k initially, but I think I got a fair market price on it. Like most of you said, I plan on driving this car till it dies, so the value doesn't phase me.

I just got 02 6 speed black on black fully loaded for $12,500, I think I got a decent deal, it took forever to find one so when I finally did I jumped on it. And Im excited to get it!!!
I used to have a 95 black se auto, cloth, no bose. That one held its value great. It had 193,000 miles on it and I sold it in sept. for $4k. It was in near perfect condition though and I had just put tires on it

From my point of view, they're not depreciating fast enough! I'd love to buy an '02 or '03 6-speed, but it's still out of my price range right now while I'm paying tuition and other college expenses. I graduate in 16 months, I just need my old Max to get me through to then. At 222,000 miles and a "rolling wreck" after being rear ended last month (still driving it), it's going to be a rough time.
At the same time, it sucks for the owners of those cars. We also have one in the driveway (dad's) so I feel the pain. Then again, does it really matter if you don't plan on selling the car, running it to 250,000 miles or more?

I just paid ( January) $19,000Can for my 02 blk 6 speed leather meridian, roof etc, which works out to approx $15,700US, but it came with 50,00 miles, Maxspeed & KYB GR2's, Frankencar cat back, Injen CAI, UDP, tinted windows, clear rears, 21 st Anni tails and an extra (have stock tires & wheels also) set of ADR 18" which I put on my 4th gen to sell.

As one who buys 'em used and drives the wheels off of them, a Maxima is one of the best used cars on the market. Depreciation makes them affordable. They look good, and they have ample stock power. And, frankly, they are pretty reliable.
I am thankful for the folks that buy them at $25k. I paid $17k for my 2000 Maxima in 2001 with 22000 miles. It now has 82000 miles with less than $450 in repairs (can you say "ignition coils"?). It has never left me stranded.
If you are the one that is losing due to depreciation, it sucks. But if you are in my shoes, it is a wonderful thing.

I just bought my '02 6-speed for $13,000. It's got 55k miles, a little more than I would have wanted, but the price was too nice to pass up. Oh yeah, after I bought it I found out that it had a 6 year 100,000 mile warranty from Nissan! The only option the car didn't have that I really wanted was leather, but I'll be adding that shortly.

The problem with adding leather is you don't get the auto climate control that comes with the factory leather package. That was an option I wanted YMMV.
