Spark Plug color... running lean?
I posted a few weeks ago about my MAF maybe being bad again since i'm getting a stutter at cruising speeds- pulled the spark plugs last night and the electrode (not the tip, the groove for NGK plugs) is a whitish color, i know this means im running lean im just not sure why. If it has something to do with the MAF which was replaced 5 months ago, i also am pretty sure the coils have already been done as they have no dot and look fairly new. Plugs dont look too bad, electrode tip is regular gray color. Wondering if i should get new plugs but i dont want them to be fouled up too, if there is a problem. Anybody had the same thing happen?
A clean, white tip is often caused by over advanced ignition, timing, poor engine cooling system efficiency (scale, stoppages, low level), a very lean air/fuel mixture, or a leaking intake manifold.
if possible, post up a pic. a grey/light tan color indicates normal use. typically when the maf goes array then the ecu will tend to run richer as a safety precaution. if you want to know if you are running lean then replace the plugs with some cheap ngk coppers and head to a dyno for a few pulls with a/f.
host them on cardomain or something. then right click on the pic and go to properties and there should be a website there. then click on insert image in the text bog and insert that webpage
