In my brand new 2001 Maxima SE I hear a hollow, thumping sound when I drive over bumps at low speed. Took it to the deal and they replaced the right rear brake caliper. It didn't help. Any ideas?

I have the exact same problem. It's not consistant. Usually occurs at start of a trip, at low speed. I thought it must be related to the brakes because when I do hear it I can tap on the brakes lightly and hear it again. A speed buump made it worse once (no braking though). Since there have been a few times where I heard it and I wasn't braking I got to thinking it may not be the brakes. Maybe the suspension?

Maybe it's the jack moving around in it's right rear storage area?

Thought of that, took it out, noise persisted.

Mine got fixed. The car is missing its shims on the rear brakes causing the pads to rattle. Even if they replace the caliper they still need these. IF you need to ask details call...

210-495-0806 ask for Rick the service manager at Gunn Nissan.

Dont mention my name, just ask you were referred and had this issue, wanted to know what it was so you could tell your dealer.
