basic rims question

hey guys, iam thinking of getting some new rims for my car....
right now i have 17" Feretti Chrome Rims, very ugly ....
I use my OEM 16" rims, and i love driving with them more than i do with Feretti rims, for several reasons:
---I can peel off, so much easier comapred to Feretti, where i cant do it at all..
---My gas mileage is so much better with OEM compared to chrome ones....
I just weigted my chrome rims with tires (i have Toyo 235/45/ 97W tires) and my scale says that they weigh 55lbs with the tires....and i was like "WOW" I am never putting them on again...I think that tey weigh way too much....
so i'll be riding on my OEM ones for now, till i get new rims....
here is my question:
...Can I get another 17" racing rims that weigh less them my OEM rims and can i put the TOYO tires on them (because my toyo tires are not even 4-6 months old)
....Should I either go with (black w/ polished lip, gunmetal, or someother kind of rims on my Sterling Mist maxima) what looks the best...
.....Keep in mind, that i'll be painting my 2k2 headlights in black, so I guess darker rims will look fine....
.....Give me some sugestions, what rims should i go with, and where can i Get them, and make sure that they weigh less than my OEM rims....how much do OEM 16 inch rims weigh?
thank you guys a lot, sry for the long post, but i really need some better rims....
thank you again..

Check out tirerack.com and edgeracing.com Both of them tell you the weight of all "lightweight" wheels.

My favorite are Enkei Rpf1, Rpm2, Rp02 and 5Zigen Fn01r-c. But Irish had some sort of fitment problems with 5Zigens, not sure what it was though.

I think your fuel consumption problem is more with tire size than it is w/ weight.
You said they weigh 55 LBS w/tires.
I'm guessing stockers wiegh around 30-45 (just a guess)

So 15 LBS isn't going to make a whole lot of a difference.
Your gear ratio was set up for use w/ 16's...
While it's true changing tire size won't change your documented final drive ratio, it will change the amount of times your tires turn on the road.
It will also change the tach so if you're looking at MPG based on your computer or based on Miles/gallons put in tank you will be off.

16" OEM wheel weight is in the Stickies....

Your 235/45/17s should fit on anything that is 17x7-17x7.5, I think, but verify that. There are MANY choices out there in terms of light weight rims. The Enkei RP02s are dirt cheap now at Edge Racing.

Take a look at this thread.

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=456139

The wheel weights are listed and you can google each wheel and get an idea of what they look like.

Not starting a flame war here but this comment is ridiculous. Any time you can remove 15lbs of weight from each wheell it is going to have a drastic effect on acceleration. As far as gas mileage goes the extra weight on each wheel & the drastic effect on acceleration is going to make you put your foot down on the pedal a whole lot more so in reality yes the extra weight on the wheels is going to hurt your gas mileage.

I think your partly incorrect............as long as the rolling radius (circumference around the tire tread) is the same as stock (call up tirerack.com and ask them for the mathematical formula) your speedometer, odometer, and tach should stay the same...............on the other hand, I don't think that the wheel weight was entirely to blame for the gas milage problem, it could also have to do with a stickier tire tread.

yea your right as long as circumference is the same it won't effect the tach, mileage, etc. (but they would have to be pretty low pro)
But he didn't say that. He said he went from 16's to 17's which will throw all that stuff off.
I agree 15 LBS will make a slight difference, but the tire size will make a bigger difference. therefore my statement is not RIDICULOUS..
Think about it this way which one makes a bigger difference??
A.) Find a way to remove 100 LBS= 100 LBs = apx .1 in the quarter. (to give an idea of how much 100!! pounds makes.
or
b.)3.73:1 gear exchanged to 4.11:1 gear..
Changing the gear is going to make a much bigger difference in fuel consumption than removing the spare tire esp if cruising at highway speeds..

The 5zigens fit fine, the only thing that doesn't fit right now is the rear cosmetic dust caps. I could make them fit by removing the OEM dust caps on the rear wheels, but since I only use those wheels for track days, I'm not going to bother...not going for looks.

They weigh about 24 lbs, actually. I know from experience

really? thanks for that info. I have been told constantly they are 21 dunno where those folks are getting their info

~~guess i'll see how my 17s look dropped. If they look decent i might just keep em. Only weigh 16.xx lbs and 17x8

OK, im gonna go ahead and set this arguement about the size/weight straight. Saving weight is a good thing (obviously) saving ROTATIONAL weight is even better (exponentialy). What matters more than weight is size. the further out from the hub the center of mass is (i.e. bigger rim) is going to require more energy and force to move and keep moving. (hence, peel outs and fuel mileage) changing the rim size WILL NOT change the tach at all, the two are ENTIRELY unrelated. The spedometer will remain accurate if as the rim diameter increases the tire profile decreases to maintain the same circumference.

and spdfreak: heres the formula: circumference=pi*2*radius
in order to find take the width of tire and multiply by the aspect ratio as a percent and add to the rim radius. that is the TOTAL radius. plug it in to the formula above and you got all the info you need.
