Strut Boot help - in need of Replacement

Jacked my car up for the first time yesturday and to my dismay I notice that my front strut boot is ripped apart.

I think this should be an cheap part to replace $10-20, but I can't find anywhere online that sells them. Anyone know where I can get some?

I believe the main purpose of the strut boot is to keep dirt and dust out but my question is how vital is it??? Is this something I should get replaced immediately or eventually...

FYI I've got stock suspension.

Thanks in advance.

I would have to say you are in need of a new set of struts anyway....

Mine blew last winter at about 65k miles. If you want, call the dealer for the boot, or check out Summit I know someone got a new set for D2's from them.

That's NOT what I wanted to hear ... but I will be hitting the 65k mark before the end of the year. How can u tell they need 2 b replaced from just the pic?? I haven't noticed any symptoms yet like my front diving on stops.

I assumed they should still be good until round 80k. Guess that's what I get for trusting Midas courtesy inspection. Thx 4 the input upstate.

I cannot tell they NEED to be replaced from the pic, but I do know that they are six years old and a worn out boot is a good idea of how your seals look.

I just would not dump money and time into struts at the end of their life. I would start setting aside money for new struts till your current set is gone. When you do get them replaced, you will really feel the difference and say "is this what my car is supposed to feel like!” It is a slow death for the struts and it is hard to notice till they blow all togeather and feel like crap.

You can get OEM boots from any Nissan dealer near you or call Dave Burnette (number is in the FAQs) for a good deal. He's the OEM parts guys that many of us here use.

Yes... but when you buy new struts do they come with the dust boot or is that a seperate part? See I thought the boot is a seperate part and since I don't plan on getting aftermarket struts, I figure I might as well replace the boots now and maintain whatever life is left in my struts.

Daves number is 1-888-254-6060

I keep his number close. lol Haven't used it much, but at least I don't have to search for it again. Its way down the list........should be one of the first in my opinion.

The very same thing happened to my boots sometime back. My car has 100K and I think my overlook to fix it when I saw it tearing apart is affecting my struts.

The struts are failing now and the symptoms of impending failures is at low speeds 25-35 MPH, once you go over some uneven spots on the road, the whole vehicle shakes, when braking the whole vehicle feels sluggish etc. and the ride is absolutely uncomfortable.

I was speaking to DaveB yesterday and his quote was $135 for each strut and $11 for the boots.

Very good deal and I intend to order it in the near future!!!

How many miles did it have on it when you noticed the boots were tearing?

new struts do not come with new boots. you can have aftermarket hp blues for about $300-320 shipped for set of 4. they are by the same manufacturer as oem struts, but slightly better.

Really... I replaced my stock suspension with D2's so they came with new boots. But even on previous cars when I replaced struts they came with new boots...

I know this is not the for sale section but it's the easiest way to tell you. I have 2 KYB SB103's if you want them. I got them from www.cattman.com, they are front strut boots.

Go to Advanced Auto Parts to borrow the spring compressors if your doing it yourself. Ask me if you have any questions on taking the strut off.
