Does timing advance when the A/C is turned on?

A Nissan mechanic told me that when the a/c is turned on the ecu advances the timing to compensate for the power loss, does anyone else believe this?

ok back on topic...

I was told that no, it only raises idle. advanced timing is just overkill.

It doesn't advance time on the maxima and most cars, but on smaller engines (like 1.5liter and 90 hp) it does matter, you really feel a difference.
