I know a lot of guys in Toronto (including myself) running 235's on oem rims with no problems, but a 255 is just too wide, and unsafe. I'm shocked that the person/shop that sold these to you didn't check the catalogue to see what the recommended rim width for the tires are. Only a total moron or newbie could have sold you these.

When shopping for tires, it's always good to do your research online beforehand or ask the salesperson to see the catalogue yourself before making a decision.

Good luck with getting this resolved.

245/45/17 seems perfect actually according to the tire calculator. There is only a 0.66% difference compared to my now 3.18%.

Nathan its was at Cheap Thrills in Milton, They are reputable so I took their word for it. I called them and they said its fine, bring in in and they'll swap em.

Here is the calculator I used: http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp

I just think you should follow what the tire manufacturer says is the recommended rim width for their tires. They wouldn't put it there for fun. Right now I'd concentrate on getting the right width, then worry about profile later, as long as it's within +/- 3% from stock.

tires are a very expensive and one of the most important parts of your car. you should do a little research before you trust joe blow at the shop that its a good part.

ive read literally hundreds of tire reviews in my search for tires and im STILL undecided. same with rims!

next time you do ANYTHING to your car(maybe even including filling it up with gas!) make sure you know what youre doing first.

if the tire width does not fit within the rim width (i.e. tire is too wide for rim) then you will automatically void any warranty that you have on the tire. Just thought that you might want to take that into consideration.

I usually do with anything about the car, I guess it is my fault as I rushed to get tires since my winters went bad and was causing bad wheel hop. Funny thing is I did my research on winters and got Pirelli 210's...Lesson learned.

listen man...and listen well. 245/45/17 ARE NOT IN SPEC EITHER FOR YOUR OEM WHEELS. If you're so dead-set on wider tires, buy wider wheels. Otherwise, buy something that will FIT YOUR WHEELS:

225/50/17, 235/45/17, or drop down to 215/55/17 as a last-ditch. No 245's, No 255's....

but it wouldn't make sense to go from 17's to 15's. Plus, going from 225/50/17 to 215/55/15 would result in 14% error in the speed.
It was a typo
