trans question
00 GLE 61,000 miles. Just had ecu, tcm update with advanced timing.
So I get ready to go to work today. Put my car in reverse, Nothing. The odd thing is as I attempte4d to rev it to see what was slipping and instead of the engine high revving like it was in neutral it went to 3000 rpms and stuck there. SO I put it in forward, no problems. I put it in reverse again to see what the hell was going on. It bogged down a little (Like when you put your car in reverse and have your foot on the brake when the engine is still cold)
Then I floord it to see if it had any life left. Again it reved to 3000 and stuck there. SO I keep it floored at 3000 and bam, reverse kicks in and my tires chirp like it was a neutral drop. It was fine after that.
I get to thinking. What the hell could it be.
I was thinking spool valve, but I know in reverse there is some 200 pounds of pressure, so I can't think that it would be sticking. Then I thought why the hell would it stay at 3000? Maybe the computer realised it wasnt engaging and doesnt rev any higher. maybe that's when the torque converter is suppossed to lock up
wtf is going on?

Since the engine is acting really weird as well (staying within a certain rpm range, even during what feels like slippage), I'm suspecting that one of the tcm inputs from the engine may be faulty.
I'm guessing the tcm uses the tps and possibly maf? Anyone know for sure? I'd like to scope all tcm inputs before going any further.

It seems that reverse is hydrologicly controlled so that rules out the tcm causing the problem.....
Pulles the codes today. first and second gear drive ratio is off.
Basically what that means is that the VSS and the ISS (if applicaple) give off different ratio's when they should read something else...Obviously it's reading as a slippage.. Today on my way to work in forward in second gear it wouldn't go over 2800-3000 rpms. I even tried to give it throttle snaps to make it down shift and it wouldn't. The engine acted like it was under a huge load at 2500 rpms....WTF is the deal??? anyone????
I'm about 30 seconds away from taking it to a tranny shop to diagnose.

I was going to take it to the tranny shop tomorrow, but they're going to say they can not duplicate. I haven't had the problem in a few days. Any other ideas?? Maybe it's trying to engage two gears at the same time??? I was thinking maybe intermittent check ball problem, but if that's the case wouldn't it stall the engine?

that happened to me too... but only one time and the tach went crazy.... I don't have a clue on what caused it but..... hasn't happened in a long time. I know I had my car parked for a long time without even moving it.

1.) If the torque converter hadn't locked up, torque would still transfer thru the gears seeing as how stall is over 1500 rpms anyways, would it not?
2.)It doesn't explain the "load" felt on the engine.
By saying this I assume what you mean by faulty torque converter is it's not transferring the power like it's suppossed too. I.E. free spinning.

Damnitt, I'm on day four trying to find a fix. Hi-jack someone elses thread...or give some props in the audio section or help for 15 posts then post your own....Or you can just donate..
