Y-pipe

I know, another y-pipe post.... well i been away for a while military deployment... my check engine light is coming on and it looks like one of my pre cats is going bad. I was wonderind what are the different brands of y-pipe and prices. im not looking to spend a lot, but anything is better than the 750 from the dealer. what do yall recommend ?
thanks

Exactly what code did you get first? You said one of your pre-cats is bad, so I assume you are Cali spec. If it is your front pre-cat that is bad, getting a new y-pipe will NOT fix that problem because that pre-cat is not in the y-pipe. Only if your rear pre-cat is bad will you be able to solve the problem via a y-pipe replacement.

If your front pre-cat is bad, then you could replace it with a new one, or a used Fed spec header (they don't have a cat in them), or Cattman or HotShot headers...

if you are getting a p0430/0420 that could either be precats or secondary oxegen simulator. you can get a O2 similaltor for $30 that will take care of the code

IMO, if your headers-precat has really gone bad (collapsed) then I would replace it as engine may suck in debris from it and damage its internals...

I agree that while it may be a good short term fix to get rid of the codes, rattling pre-cat parts isn't something you want to be driving around with in the long term.

You could try replacing the O2 sensor first or an O2 sim. If you want to replace the pre-cat, you can usually find em for sale in the FS forums. I know DCMan is selling the front pre-cat off a DE-K for 85 shipped right now.
