ok suburbs, not city. there isnt a catagory for the burbs, so i put in city. where i live, there arnt too many lights, so i cruise at 45mph, hwy i go about 75mph. and i rarely go over 2500k. grandma style. because gas is 2.75. just to go to work and back im spending 6 bucks a day, plus going to friends house, church, going out to eat, etc....i end up spending alot more. 22mpgx17=374mpt

I posted a picture of my cars trip odo and gas tank from a trip I took from the burbs of Chicago to Dodgeville WI not too long ago. I absolutely babied the car, used verrrry little engine power to accelerate and used 5th gear even in the 30MPH zones. I got 300 miles to a half a tank, but after that the needle started to drop faster than it did to half mark from full, my result was 514 miles on a tank of gas.

My car has approx 152K or so miles on it, on the original 02 sensors and updated MAF that so far has been solid for the last 2 years (knock on wood).

On regular driving to and from work, where I really do not care bout my MPG I get approx 250 miles out of 11 gallons of gas. I never fill up to the MAX as it slows my car down with all the extra weight from the gasoline :P I tend to drive aggressivly, and usually cruise at 80-100MPH with 70% of the driving done on the highways. See sees red line a few times a day too... I think my Maxie is gifted

My Q45 gets bout 360 miles to a tank of gas- 19 gallons, its 12 years old and has a 4.5L V8 hauling a 4200lb tank around. Same style driving as the Max pretty much, but I do sometimes let her rip to 7K RPM and hit deeeep tripple digit speeds to keep my ears entertained to that lovely V8 roar

There is something really wrong with your numbers. If you are getting 16.4 mpg and only going 150-160 mi., that means your tank is holding less than 10 gals. But if you are also filling up with 16 gals. each time, then 6 gals. is disappearing somewhere. Maybe you got a fuel leak somewhere before the engine. Or maybe someone is stealing gas from your tank.

i can kinda tell how much milage i should get now... i try to shoot for 390-400 using a full tank- aka past E..

usually i hit 100 at the 2nd tick mark.. halfway i expect to have 200-220.. 4th tick mark is aroun 300.. and so on..

lately i have gotta about 350 for a 15 gal fillup.. not bad.. i wish it was better.

oh yea 85% hwy/ 15% city

i avg 75-80mph on the highway.

My 03 Max has horrible mileage while doing stop and go city traffic. It is about 15 to 16 mpg. On the hwy, it is pretty good though. I drove from Queens, New York to Williamsburg, VA on a tank of gas. The trip was over 400 miles and I had 4 adults and lots of luggage in the trunk.

mine eats a lot depending on how much electrical stuff i have. i lose 5mpg from the headlights alone. i'll test this against next time i have the chance but that's what i found a while ago.

daytime with the ac off i got over 420 on my last trip. yes i was tapping well into the reserves..

WOW, I thought my car was doing bad, but I guess not. I got my car in MD, and drove it home to VA. 250 miles oneway. I got 28 MPG which included getting lost in a town in MD, and then traffic through D.C. I think I could have gotten about 30 had it not been for D.C..

I still average about 25MPG around town. I get 200-220 out of a 1/2 tank. I live in a area that was rated something like 5th worse traffic area in the country, and the interstate system here was rated something like 2 worse in the country for lack of flow. We call it the worlds biggest parking lot. Average speed per the computer is about 25MPH. This is about right. My other two cars with the average speed teller say about the same.

I did find my MPG counter to be off by 2MPG. It reports 27MPG for around town driving, but based off the numbers at fill up and miles driven, it's 25. Same thing for the highway. The trip back home it read 30MPG, but was really 28.

Hope this helps.

How did you ascertain that? The tanks on Maxes have been 18.5 gallons for a long time. I had two 3rd gens that both had them. Are you going by how many gallons it takes to refill your tank?

I don't think i got 18 gallon tank either, because the most gas i could put in was 16 gallons and that's driving for like 50 more miles after the empty warning light came on...

... last few weeks i was driving under 70mph, shifting at 2k rpm, and i managed to only get 28.6 mpg, but usually i get under 25 mpg...

What should we be going by?

Because I'm with the group that can never fill up more than 16 gall even after going wayyy past the first warning light. I don't do that often but hey it happens once in a while. So like the guy above said, say you go about 40-50 miles after the low fuel light starts going off, you should have gone through almost all the reserves, right?

Supposed 18 gal tank, and it fills up with under 16 gallons when it's bone dry? Someone explain.

I run city/hwy combined daily to work and never get worse than 23MPG and never less than 310 miles on a tank, with Injen, UDP, Frankencar catback, 0-30 Mobil 1 synthetic, 92 octane, 6 speed, and I'm def a spirited driver.

Ive run my gas pretty low. I believe its a 18.5 gallon tank, i ran it really low just to see. my dte was flashing ----- and my needle was below the E point, when i filled it up all the way it said like 17.9 something.

As for mileage, if im going on long trips then i get great gas mileage. I went for SLC to st.george (305 miles away) and I had 1/4 tank left, that was going 80-90 in 6th gear. I could have made it to mesquite but i didn't want to push it.

I dont think anyone posted this but heres a trick to increase gas mileage. Fill up your tires with air, around 38-39psi. My altima was notorious for this. When the air got below 35 gas mileage suffered. This was on my 17's. My maxima I noticed the air was low in the tires today. Filled them up and gas mileage increased. For some reason I need to check my air pressure more frequently with 17's as opposed to a smaller wheel size. Never had that problem on 15's. The reason it increases gas mileage is because more traction is getting to the road.

Heres more tips at:
http://www.ehow.com/how_2629_increase-gas-mileage.html

Adding octane boost helps every once in awhile as well.

I average 320 to the tank. My 2002 automatic Maxima is about 16 gallons, so 20 mpg. I do mostly city driving. Get the oxygen sensor checked, I had 2 that went bad 3 months after warranty and had to replace those lil suckers. I think it was about $400.

my 02 is currently at Cherry Hill Nissan (sigh) getting the TSB done for P0139 and P1147 codes, the 2 rear bank 02 sensors plus the ECM upgrade. gas mileage did drop off but not significantly, so we'll see if this actually does anything.by the way they wanted 3 hours labor to do 2 sensors, for a total of $300 in labor. can you believe that garbage? i changed one out myself but the other was rusted in there even my mechanic couldnt get it off.

and on a similar note, how do i know that these guys are really going to do the ECM upgrade? how do i know theyre not just gonna reset the SES light? i really really hate these guys.

i get about 17-18 mpg on 93 octane city/hwy driving on my 5.0 gen.

i don't think 150,160 is what you're getting. you should be at least 300 on a full tank.

no FUC***G way man.....
23.6 mpg in a 5.5g maxima, and city driving, thats crazy
because EPA states that for city: 20 - 21mpg AND highway:26 - 28.....
so u must be either getting all those miles on highway,
or ur saying things that are not correct.....

I've noticed if I accelerate quickly when driving the max, the mileage takes a dump on itself...trip computer has said as low as 17MPG for a whole tank in all city driving..but my trip computer usually says I get 1-2MPG better than I actually do..so if it says 17MPG it was probably more in the neighborhood of 15-16MPG. Right now I am drivin nicely, not accelerating hard..at least not revin past 3k rpms, and trip computer is showin 24.4MPG and thats all city with an average speed of 22MPH..

TSB is done, and no change in gas mileage. so for me at least, changing those 02 sensors and doing the ecm upgrade just got rid of the ses light. showing around 23 mpg on the gauge after 250 miles, but that always overestimates so realistically more like 18 mpg.

My mileage on my max dropped about 15% over the last year.

Used to get 600 kms on a tank driving the same route (120 kms hwy and back daily).

Now i barely get above 500. 2000 GLE with auto tranny.

What should I get checked out guys? Tire pressure is cool, and I run fuel injection cleaner stuff once every couple of months. Had a tranny flush about 10k clicks back as well, as well as alternator and cat converter change.

I get about 17-20MPG City(with some highway).. but when I do all highway driving, I get about 24MPG. 23 city is insane, I can't imagine anyone getting that city.

the only way to really get some good gas milage is not to acclerate so fast, ive noticed that in the past month, by not going over 2.5k when acclerating and staying on the right lane, and not going over 75 on the high way, you will increase gas milage by 10-15%. but of course, our cars are suppse to be driven hard and if you cant afford gas get a civic? no, id rather drive slow then drive a freakin civic.

yeah, just keep your rpms low and youll get great gas mileage, i cruise around 75 -80 on the highway with around 2600 rpms and the mpg computer shows me 26-29

sometimes I just feel the NEED FOR SPEED though LMAo :-) i hate when people pass me by and im like, NOoooo... must keep under 2.5k rpm! cant,... handle it ... and i just have to pass them , i hate myself at moments like that

and another thing is, the car is too quiet for me, i have a gab, and it sounds great at higher rpms, would a y-pipe make a nice sound that isnt too loud? like my girlfriends gsx which is way too loud for my taste

Gasoline formula manipulations

Since we're getting donkey punched at the pump they not only are we fed lies but the "reformulations" allow them to put in "fillers" meaning the fuel is not nearly as pure. I'm not professing as an expert, but conversations with some folks at the pum combined with reading I've done b4 on this topic seems to verify this. Mechanics aside, if you're seeing a drop off on your MPG, it maybe the type of gas they're selling now. This allegation comes from some of the dealers and mechanics.

Anyhoo...I'm getting knocked down to 19 and change with heavy traffic even though its highway/local for some of my travel. In NY that doesn't really matter eh. On good days I can still get up to 25 MPG highway.

"Senate Republican plan to mail $100 checks to U.S. voters burdened with high gasoline prices is drawing voter contempt."

'What kind of insult is this?' Rush Limbaugh asked on his radio program on Friday. 'Instead of buying us off and treating us like we`re a bunch of ******, just solve the problem.'

'Suppliers have lost control of the market,' Bodman told NBC television, in explaining how gasoline (petrol) prices had risen as much as 60 cents a gallon, or at least 25 pct, in one month.
'We've got demand coming from China, from India, from the United States,' reflecting strong economies, Bodman said.======>
More propaganda folks. This didn't just happen overnight. Plus its a half truth.

I consistantly get 350 miles out of my 02-SE driving a combination of highway and city! Averaging 23-24mpg. I can get over 400 miles on long highway trips.

My last tank of gas, I was very careful with the car and didn't do much, if any quick accelerating. The whole tank was intown, not any on the highway, the trip computer showed 23.6 MPG, but when I filled up I put in 13 and some change gallons of gas, and had 260 miles on the tank. This was with premium 91 octane BP gas. The gas light wasn't on yet, I had about a quarter of a tank of gas left.

ok, I'm not gonna complain about the gas mileage in our maximas because I bought my maxima because it definately hauls some @$$, not because its the most fuel efficient. but those of you who are getting greater than 300 miles on a tank of gas in all city driving, can I ask how?? Do you have intakes, exhaust sp?, any mods, or just bone stock? Thanks.
