Teaser Pics - Ipod, Sat Radio, or Aux 6 disc changer option
I am currently working on a way to utilize the tape head in the 6 disc indash changer unit to make it an aux input to be used with Satellite radio, ipods, pdas, and other such devices. The FM Modulator just did not do it for me, sound quality wise. For now I am using a tape adapter, (Sony) to be exact, and it does sound pretty good, but I want better.
As it stands right now, I created a junction of sorts. Its just a proto-board (circuit board without traces), that has a feed from the satellite radio, phono plugs spliced to bare wire going into the board. The next feed is from the 1/8" jack I drilled and mounted in the dash, just above the hazard light button. And finally this output is feed to the tape adapter.
The cool thing about this is that I use my pda for navigation as well as mp3 playback. When I have the satellite radio and the mp3 going, there are 2 signals being feed into 1 output. So when the PDA makes a direction statement, it temporarily drops the volume on the Satellite radio so you can hear it, then the volume on the music is returned back to full volume once the directional statement is over. If I am playing mp3's through the pda and running the navigation, the PDA will mute the music internally to give me the same functionality as well.
I currently have the radio on my bench to do some tests with bypassing the tape adapter and running directly to the tape head. This will takes some time as I am currenly in school, but I am sure that I will get this done. There are some issues like impedance matching of the signals, preamp and post-amp levels of the tape signal processing in the factory headunit, but I hope to over come these.
I plan on doing a full writeup to keep you guys posted for whoever's interested.
Now some cosmetic pics...

I have the tape adapter wire running through the back of the unit so the wires are not visible.

Pretty sweet
Soundgate makes an aux input for the max, but it'samlmost impossible to find them anywhere. The only place I can find them online is constantly sold out
If you ever make a working model of this I'd buy it. I made an ipod mount in my cupholders, and now I can't get ahold of the soundgate Aux-niss
So yeah dude, hot stuff

takes about 30 min depending on if you know what your doing or not.
you have to completely take the stereo out with the climate control and then take the face plate off, def. cleans it up a bit, but sometimes the unit wants to eject the tape and it causes an issue. just leave enough slack for it to eject fully.
Oh and that Aux-niss2 that your talking about does not work with the bose stereo since it does not have a changer input, only works with the base unit, i know..sucks

positive, since the bose has an indash 6 cd changer, they did not put an aux-in for an external changer. only way to get a signal into it is through a modulator (wired/wireless) or the tape deck adaptor, which i think is the best quality and cheapest.

Wait, looking at your head unit, it's different from mine. I have an 00' se, it's only got a single disk bose. The Aux-Niss plugs into the port that the 6 disk would go if I'm not mistaken.
But I must say, you have done some exceptional work.
