i just tried to do emission here in ga
and i got the same code p0139.
So i called up Nissan dealer telling the service rep about this TSB, he said that is only there to help their techs in fixing the car, it has nothing to do w/us (customers). He also said this is not a recall and since my car is out of warranty, they'll not fix it for free. Is that true?
So i really have to shell out $300 for them to fix it?

Same Problem

Same problem here. Just curious if it is really a faulty sensor or that the ECU is too sensitive? I'm in Canada so theres no AutoZone here. So am I stuck to go to the dealer to replace the O2 and reflash the ECU? Or is there any other options? Thank you all!

And what are the negative effects on driving with a faulty O2 sensors? Any immediate or long term risks?

If you both have 5.5 gens, look up the technosquare ECU reset proceedure for resetting the ECU. Change the 02's if you like power and gas milage.

What year is your Maxima? Depending on what year it is, like GBAUER said you could reset the ECU first and see if the code comes back. If it does, just replace the sensor yourself. Don't go to dealer, they will charge you CDN $350 to replace it and another $100 for reprogram...

2000

I have the 2000 SE. So reprogram the ECU is not necessary if I get new sensor? And any clue why it takes a while to have the light turn back on after resetting? I have OBD-II scanner. The same one that's being sold in Canadian Tire for $249.99. I got it off ebay though.

It takes a while for it to come back on cause it needs to get through a whole cycle which sometimes takes 400 km of driving or so...

There is likely no need for you to update the ECM, usually just the replacement of the sensor works well. DaveB's price for this sensor will not be much lower than local dealer considering the exchange rate, shipping and brokerage fees.

What I did on one occassion is buy a Walker generic O2 from www.oxygensensors.com and it came to around CDN $70 with shipping...

Walker

Is the Walker Universal one direct fit? I heard from others that the Bosch one needs to be modded slightly. Thank You.

Walker Universal comes without the harness connector and you will need to reuse your old one. It will require some wire cutting and crimping to put the new one on. The sensor will come with crimps and instructions for DIY. I think it is a great alternative and will save you a few $$ compared to OEM or OEM-replacement...

That is true... a TSB is not a recall nor are O2 sensors covered under most extended warranties. I would just go out and buy the O2 sensors using the part numbers in the TSB and DIY.
