Do I have to upgrade brakes?

I put on some 19's last week, but I was probably going to move up to 20 since the 19's look small. My car drives fine with the 19's it just seems that sometimes it takes a little more effort to stop the car. Do I need to buy bremo rotors and a different set of brakes (brand I don't know since i want quiet but great stopping power). Or do I have to bite the bullet and buy a big brake kit, in which I really don't want to have to modify the braking systems as of yet since I'm still under warranty.

In my opinio 20's are for trucks not sedans they look retarded on maxes. Just get some new pads slotted rotors and bleed the brakes. That should solve your stopping problem

just do a 04 maxima brake upgrade. buy 04 front calipers, pads and rotors. I got my calipers for 75 bucks each brand new at the dealership, pads from a local auto parts store 60 bucks and rotors from someone on the org don't remember his name but i payed 120 for the front pair slotted - check the dealer forum. so for like $350 u got a bbk. i've had mine for almost a year and have been very satisfied. also unless ur takin ur car in because of specific brake problems, I don't think the dealership would even notice.....it's only like an inch or two bigger.
I really don't think that ur rims r too small, I think u just need to lower ur max a little , like some tien H-techs would look sweet. just my .02

He doesn't need slotted rotors.

Do this...buy some Hawk HPS pads and some stainless steel lines and you should be okay. No need for new calipers or rotors.

IMO hawk pads make too much noise.

Do you know of a better brake pad with little dust and no noise?

You probably don't want something like that. Usually the pad is made to be very strong, that is why there is little dust. In turn it's so strong that it starts eating away at the rotor itself, so you'll end up having to replace those again sooner.

I think you can get away with going to your local parts store and inquiring about pads that do not have a lifetime warranty. Look in particular at those with about a 2 year warranty. That would probably be the least costing method, but you might replace them a little more often.

Checkout the Raybestos. They've seemed to work good for me in the past. No noise, and moderate brake dust if I remember correctly.

Sounds like there's nothing acutally wrong with your brakes but if you're looking to make a jump in stopping power the 6th gen brake upgrade is a good way to go ( Calipers, rotors, SS brakes lines, pads etc) and very affordable plus with the bigger 12.6" rotor you're going to fill in that huge gap with the bigger wheels, this upgrade is also nice as it's a strict bolt and play, no adapters or fabrications, I plan on doing this upgrade as soon as my rotors are done. There are other BBK's but they are way more $$$.

Regarding pads Hawk's are very popular there's no denying, but there are other good pads out there, I've had a lot off sucess with Performance friction carbon metallic's and very affordable. Just my 2cents.

Bought mine from these guys:

04 maxima brake upgrade?

Whats this I've been reading to so a 6th gen brake upgrade on 5.5 gen? Per the consumerreports.org the 6th gen braking (year 04) brake rating is "fair" compared to "very good" rating of the 03 maxima. the 03 maxima, and the 05 maxima both have a "very good" rating.. 02s and 04s have a "fair" rating. Just something i read. I would attach a PDF of the report, but this thread doesn't allow attachments..

I was looking for the least amount of brake dust since I have rims and don't want to clean them everyday. But I need better stopping power over OEM brake pads.

IMO, Consumer Reports should stick to rating appliances and crap like that. They have NO F'ing clue when it comes to cars.

We're all consumers. All the data are collected based on us. If they can rate a vacuum, they can rate a car. We all have bad experiences, and good experience. Consumerreports.org sorts them out, and categorizes them for us. It’s no coincidence when a constant problem occurs w/ a vehicle and/or a vacuum.. If there is a constant problem with a particular year, make and model, I’d like to know about it before blowing $$... you know what I’m saying? We can do guess and check, or we can trust collected data. just my 2 cents.

I've been doing alot of reading about this and if I were you I would deff do the 05 calipers from Dave B. With brembo rotors just blanks (oe)Theres a site that hase the pair for $120. Steal lines and Hawk pads. (03maxima1 prob put them on wrong). You will deff have much improved stopping power. And the 05 rotors are a little bigger so it will be like a poor mans big brake kit. With big rims big rotors are a must. Plus going to 20's is fine but lowering your car will look better than 1" bigger rims. You should look into that first
