new brakes install problem

hey guys i put new rotors and pads on my 2k maxima from irotors. i finished up and when i drive it sounds like the rear brakes are rubbing against the rotors. it doesn't slow me down or stop me but it makes a noise....

any ideas of why that'd be happening?

I assume you replaced all 4 rotors? I couldn't find it quickly, but someone posted a thread in the past few days about a similar "dragging" noise comming from the front brakes... I think someone suggested a visiual inspection to see if anything was touching the rotor that shouldn't be. Good luck...

do you mean like a rubbing sound? or a light grinding? if you have the X-drilled/slotted rotors, this is normal for x-drilled or slotted. there is another thread about it on this page. mine did the same thing and i had the same question.

It was Irish and he told them to the check the metal dust shield on the backside of the rotor. This was the problem on the post a couple days ago, so check that first before you panic too much. You should be able to bend it by hand if its touching.

don't think it has anything to do with the ebrake being tuned incorrectly?

This happened to me as well after changing-out the front rotors and pads.
Hand-bend it back into place -- no big deal.

Pesky little dust-shield.....

If your car is an auto, the cables may be hanging up. With the rear wheels off, have someone work the ebrake handle up and down and watch the levers on the calipers. Make sure they return to their stops every time released. The 4th gen cars have a TSB on the cables, and i'm sure the 5th gens will eventually. Mostly because ppl with automatics never use the ebrake.

I have the same problem. Since u did install yourself have you checked the piston dust boots? if those are busted your caliper likely needs to be replaced. I have changed everything but still problem exists. The weird thing is that left wheel doesn't drags and the right does. I feel vibration on e-brake while driving.
I've heard that problem could be in bearing? Has replacement of the bearing helped anyone?

ouh BTW I know that in my case it's a caliper I replaced it, pushed in the piston & bled it.
Still problem exist: After I did everything above, put everything together wheel rotated easel. then after short test drive I jacked the car again &checked if wheel rotates easely too bad it was stuck again. Anyone had same problem?

what sort of rubbing? if it's metal-on-metal then its almost definately the little clip thingy the pads rest on. one of them would be touching a rotor (easy fix, just push it out a little.. very thin metal and easy to bend)

I'm having the same problem. Did you ever figure out what it is? I already replaced the caliper once - seemed to be working fine. Today I changed the rotors and pads and the rear/passenger side caliper seized again and the wheel does not turn freely like the other rear wheel. I'm not sure what's going on, but this is the same side that seized last time. Anybody know what the problem might be???

Same rubbing sound I had when I changed my rear pads last week. It was my rear passenger side. As soon as I put on the new pads, there was rubbing. Took the wheel off and spun the hub. Couldn't figure out what it was. Did the whole rear pad change again (that wheel only). I noticed my rubber boot was sticking inside the piston getting all twisted. Took it off, re-installed it, put the pads back on, made sure all the retainer clips were all nice and clean again (even the crud build-up behind the calipers) and put the wheel back on. Drove the car, and, at first, the noise was there a quick second, and then went away after driving a short distance. Noise never came back. I'm not sure if this was a piston related issue or not, but coincidently, my noise went away and never came back. It seems that everybody experiences these noises AFTER the pads are changed. I wonder if this happens to be a piston problem in our calipers??? Hmmmmm?
