Cleaning Plastic in front of Gauges

Is there a way to remove the plastic without removing the kick panel under the steering wheel and going up from there? Can it be done just by undoing the screws above the panel and removing the trim around the steering wheel? tia

Yes. Kickpanel? You do NOT need to go even near that low.

hooray. So in theory, this could be a shortcut way to install chrome rings someday too? The reason i'm askin is 1) the plastic is kinda dirty, and 2) i'd love to get gauge rings but i really don't trust myself to disassemble the whole gauge cluster, as is described in housecor's site. Any help in how to get that thing off would be appreciated, tia...

Yea. Two screws above the gauge cluster in the trim. Remove the top half of the clamshell from the steering column. Gauge cluster has 3 screws - 1 in top middle, other two on bottom, left and right side. Unplug harnesses from back. Remove cluster and search for the tabs that clip the acrylic to the cluster. Unclip those and you can install your gauge rings.

also, is cm.com the best place to buy a bezel? I've done a yahoo shopping search, but there are no real matches for 2000 bezels. And the one off redlinemax is 60 dang bucks. Just thought i'd ask... tia.

What color are your gauges now?

What color is your interior? Wood trim or no?

Here...this is what it would look like. And it really is not that difficult to remove/install the gauge cluster. I have done it many times to clean my plastic. Hell I've even replaced the plastic a few times because it was so scratched. New plastic is about $30.

Would you know if the gauge bezel itself is available? The flat piece of ABS with the holes cut out for the gauges?

If you follow housecor's write-up for the guage ring install, you shouldn't run into too many issues.

Call him back. There might have been some confusion. You can definitely get the clear plastic. I ordered it from him before.

Yeah they look pretty white, but they have a slight silver tint to them. IIRC the 2k2 and 2k3 have more silver to them than the 2k and 2k1 gauges.

I got the bezel from shadow...can't remember his online store. I got the chrome rings from another guy on here that was doing group deals. He was the only one to get them from at the time...dang can't remember his name.
